Something we might not know about you

I collect knots.
In my apprenticeship I learned 26 knots and splices for fibre rope, most of them antiquated and unused today. It fascinated me, the knowledge and skills that were so important not long ago and now are almost lost so I got together all the literature I could find and I learn knots.
I once tied hundreds of Carrick Bends to make a hammock.
I'm the only knot nerd I know.

Don't worry, the Navy and Coasties still carry on the tradition on a lot of ships.

Let's see....something you might not know about me.....

I'm a huge self reliance kinda guy. Most of the stuff in and around my house was bought broken, and repaired, or flat out made, by me. My newest thing? Forging. Final touches will be added to my firepit next year to convert it to a proper bellows fed forge, and I'm going to try my hand at making all sorts of stuff from the various bits of metal I got in my garage.

Eye splices in your pic. I must have done a hundred of 'em.
A lot of the knots we apprentice Ironworkers learned are old sailor's knots. Working aloft had the same problems and same solutions ashore as asea, often. In fact, several old timers I knew were ex merchant sailors. The trades overlap in the rigging.
Your linked article shows a monkey's fist. They used to be tied in heaving lines- now I sometimes make dog toys with them.

Here you go, sweetie.

I'm a comic book collector.

At last count, i have 37,583 comics....from Golden Age to Modern Age. At least 2K of them officially graded & encapsulated because of their rarity & value.

That is awesome. I still have all my old comic books from the 60's,70's and 80's. I learned about inflation because of comic book prices. When I started getting an allowance ($1/week) I could buy 5 comic books, then they raised the price to 25 cents and I could only get 4, then the bastards raised them to 35 cents and I needed $1.05 to get 3. Told my mom at that point I needed a raise, lol. I used to collect Monster Magazine too, sadly those are gone, probably pilfered.

Still have all my Matchbox cars too.

Oh, I still have all my mom's Nancy Drew and Hardy Boy books from the 50's.

I'm kind of a packrat, lol.

Edit, my first "job" when I was 12ish was bagging comic books at Henry's used books, no pay but he'd give us comic books for doing it. I think he just felt sorry for me and my friend who came in all the time to window shop.

Beyond cool!

I am pretty sure your dream bingo parlor doesnt look anything like the ones I know

Moldy smelling Church basements? lol that's where the majority of them are here. I'd like something more modern but still kind of traditional. It's still a work in progress idea. I did go to a disco bingo a couple months ago that was pretty cool and would be nice once in awhile after hours.

I am addicted to Caffeine Free Diet Coke, and I am not a fan of chocolate. I really have to be in a mood for it, which I am usually not.

I feel the same, but only when it comes to thinks like Hershey's chocolate. I'm fine with hot chocolate, but hard chocolate that I have to bite into, is just totally different for me.

Yup. Exactly. Now every now and then, I'll be jonesing for like an Almond Joy or something, but that's rare. Give me a good, carby pastry any time. Unless it's a chocolate pastry.

I like chocolate.

You can always have holographic meatloaf.

Holographic meatloaf?! MY FAVORITE!

(I knew I liked you for some reason. I am a huge fan of Spongebob. Actually, more a huge fan of Squidward, Plankton and Patrick).

Ricky Martin bought me a beer at a bar in Cambodia once.

I ran into Vince McMahon while waiting to go to court over a traffic violation about 17 years ago. I was sitting in a hallway, when I saw 3 guys walking down the hallway towards me. One of them was clearly Vince McMahon. I'm not even a wrestling fan, but he is easy to spot.

Just to make sure it was him, I said "Vince McMahon"? He turned and I said hello and he said the same. Some celebs tend to ignore or blow off people who approach them, but McMahon didn't do that. He had come to De to deal with some issue related his company. He is probably incorporated in Delaware.

Really? I've seen a lot of those, but they've always been roached. Covers falling off, pages loose, water damage etc. I actually saw one at a library book sale that had pages crumbling from the slightest touch.

What's one thing we might not know about you?

Here's mine --- I cannot STAND the sound of a bathroom exhaust fan. Never use it -- turn it off immediately if I accidentally hit it.

I can trace my ancestors on my father's side all the way back to 1430. Not one person of any distinction among the whole lot. But not one criminal either.
