A married teacher, who also worked as a cheerleading coach, has been charged over an alleged sexual relationship with a pupil.

Katherine Ross Ridenhour, 23, was arrested following claims of inappropriate contact with the 17-year-old.

She subsequently resigned from her role as a science teacher at Cox Mill High School in Concord, North Carolina, where she was also a cheerleading coach.

Really disappointed in the actions of Mrs. Ridenhour. She should know better especially considering the college she just graduated from.

That being said the mistakes of this young women will practically ruin her career and life. Is it fair for her to be labeled a sexual predator the rest of her life? As a society we need to find a better solution to help these teachers.

I agree that what she did is disappointing but I do not believe teachers should be subject to different laws than others. 17 is not a minor. 17 is able to consent. If that 17 year old boy dated a 23 year old woman who was not a teacher, it would not be an issue.

I think the school has every right to fire her -- and they should. But, she should be treated as any other 23 year old woman who dated a 17 year old.

What? Help the teachers?? How about the bank presidents, the admin managers, Boy Scout leaders, little league coaches, priests, etc., etc? Teachers deserve no special help.

A sexual predator is a sexual predator. To think one’s CAREER entitles them to special or extra “treatment” is ludicrous.

Throw the book at her. She has changed that person’s life forever.

They should not allow new teachers to teach high school. That would fix 90% of these problems

I don't about the US sates but in Canada that would still be considered predatory because the teacher is in a position of power over the student.

The first thing society could do is to stop forcing their Puritanical perspectives on young adult women and instead allow them to decide for themselves to have sex or not with other adults like normal people. Celebacy is unnatural sexual behavior.

IMHO if this lady had a normal and natural sex life she would have been much less likely to have been involved with a 17 year old.

I imagine Liberty University is big into sex shaming.

Oh, and what’s the deal with her having been a cheerleader coach? How is that relevant? They mentioned it twice in the article. What’s up with that? Slut shaming?

She is literally the definition of a sexual predator. I doubt very much you would support that notion if it was a male teacher.

I am not sure where you live in but society does not push "Puritanical perspectives" on women. Society pushes a hedonistic perspective.

WTF happened to the teaching profession.....I mean I understand that our schools suck especially the High Schools so working in one is pretty dang depressing no matter how good the pay is (and it tends to be too good), but being a teacher used to MEAN something.
