Guess that's a yes? We never can seem to get that close.

Most were skiddish and wouldn't come near. These guys a bit different... And my sister was like a horse whisperer when she was younger.

One thing I regret never seeing is the loggerhead turtles that come there to lay eggs.

For those who don't know... Cumberland Island, GA is the largest island off the Georgia coast. It is a national park now but used to be owned solely by Andrew Carnegie. there are a few mansions on the island for himself and some children. His house, Dungeness... burned down in the the 50's so now there's just ruins there to trapse around.

Now it's a hikers paradise. They tightly restrict the population that is ever on the island at one time so when you are there, you may see some others at designated camp sites but other than that, you probably won't see much of anybody else. It's not attainable by any bridge. It's a 45 minute ferry ride to reach it. They have wild horses and pigs that have inhabited the island since they went from domestic to feral many years ago.

I've lived here for years and have never seen turtles lay eggs. From May to July we have to watch our speed on the causeways, because the turtles are crossing to lay eggs.

I love that it's so quiet there. Between the ferry price, and the cost to get on the island, it's about $25 per person, so most people opt for the free islands around here.

Oh, and JFK,Jr got married there.
