I have seen all three and just wonder what others had to say.

I know a bloke that had a Yugo that lasted for 20+ years and had over 200,000 miles on it.

The Trabant......easily the worst of the three, and I have seen and been in all three.....My lawn mower is more reliable and produces less exhaust.

But I am told they are somewhat collectable now.

Trabants had a 26 HP engine, so that's pretty tough to beat when we're talking worst car. i remember reading jokes about Trabants almost monthly in Car and Driver when i was a kid. they're sort of cute little cars, but having that brand as the main game in town must have sucked. of course, we're talking East Germany, so i doubt that the Trabant was anywhere near the biggest problem for most East Germans.

There are a couple of nice examples of the Trabant hanging from the ceiling/roof of the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Worked on one or two Yugos, (not favorably impressed). Two other gems were the Renault LeCar, and the Fiats before the mid 1980s. Fiat left the US market sometime in the !980s.

Watch it slolem at 10:20.

I think they pulled a Knight Rider. Where when KITT was supposed to be going really fast they just sped up the film.

i admit that i was a bit surprised that it performed that well. did you see all of that shiny, just-out-of-the-box analog manufacturing tech? the propagandists were trying pretty hard to appear cutting edge. either way, the video was very interesting.

yeah, i can't tell for sure if they sped it up or not. might have done like 1.4X at most, but there aren't any flags waving in the background or birds flying across the frame, so it's hard to make a determination. the exhaust looks like it's coming out a bit fast, but it also looks that way in the roller test right before that.

Trabant, by far. They didn't even have enough metal for the body, much of it is painted spun cotton, or something like that. I've been in a few Ladas, solid crappy Soviet car, but it works.

I like how it was supposed to impress the viewer by driving it through a shallow mud puddle.

they definitely made it look a lot more powerful and responsive than it actually was.
