College so far (Part 2).

Ignore the hippie who met the love of his life in college posing as some august scholar who only deigned to indulge in the most cerebral of pastimes while recieving an education.

I met my wife while at college. At a bar. Which, apparently, was a swingers bar. Which we didn't realize. Until later.

I don't see how that's bad. Of course I'm more excited with the more social aspect. It's freshman year, and I'm doing new things and hanging out with new people. I don't want to spend my days in college solely focused on work.

Neither playing nor work is what the University was for, it was for learning.....exploring.

I am sure that your primary education has already taught you how to be a worker bee, that is not what your classes are for.

Oh, relax. Let the kid learn at her own pace. If your nose was buried as deep in your books as you seem to be implying, you never would have met that wife of yours there.

No! I must study all day, every day! No time to enjoy myself! No time to make friends!

MUST. STUDY.

Yeah, right.

What's your major? You decided yet? Either way....80% of the classes you'll take are going to be completely unrelated to that major.

Study, yes. To pass those BS classes the college makes you take so they can bill you. But I'll tell you, I learned more out of class that's been useful to me than I did in class.

Yeah, right.

My major is political science. I may change it though, I don't know.

Oh yeah. The only class I'm taking right now that's remotely related to my major is Government.

Yup.

What do you want to do for a living? Tell me, governess, what do you wanna be when you grow up?

Honestly...I have no idea. I've considered a lot of different things (you can do a whole lot with a political science degree), but I still haven't figured out exactly what I want to do yet.

That argument would work better if it were not so that almost all freshmen spend the entire year doing what used to be high school work, and paying $25k plus for the remedial instruction. Universities need to get back to doing their jobs, we need them to step up, and the only way that will happen is if their customers demand it.

But.......then they wouldn't be able to continue to demand 4 years for a degree. Which....would be less money.

Remember, hawk, we can learn faster and easier than ever, compared to the snails pace you had when you went. The internet changed everything. Colleges need to charge for four years, though. So, they make bull**** classes to fill the time and credits.
