Red Cross blood donor sticker on door, and they never come back.

Okay... that was funny.

And it works!

They are crafty cult freaks... I remember in Denmark, they came to my house and I answered.. 2 guys. I told them I was not interested... a week later, 2 hot girls showed up instead :) While I liked the look and flirting they did, I got myself a blood donor sticker and never saw them again :)

Two ladies just stopped at my door to drop off The Watch Tower. Just stayed a minute. I thanked them and God-Blessed them. Most people I talk to despise their door-to-door prostelatizing. You?

Why or why not?

I've always found them to be friendly and polite. I invite them in and we have philosophical conversations. They think they are God's chosen elect, but so do the Jews. My money's on the Holy Rollers.

Anti-Semite ;)

Funny but not true...at least that is not the reason they didn't come back...blood donors do not deter us...

They do in Denmark, I know several who have done this trick.

That is not correct either...we have no idea who will be saved and who will not...only God knows that because only He can read the heart...do we believe we are doing our best to follow God's Holy Word? Yes we do, but there are many good, honest hearted people out there striving to do the same...

Well it doesn't work in the US...there are many ex-donors who are now JW's...my mom and dad included...

Well then, why do you walk around bothering people?

I simply told them I was an adherent of Gridr, the Norse personification of violence.

They haven't been back.

Because of Jesus' command at Matthew 28:19,20..."Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”

If you had left them alone would they have a chance at getting in? If you talk to them and force them to make a choice and they refuse you are you helping to condemn them? Whatever, either way, I have a high pressure hose waiting for you if you ever come here.

Nobody comes to my door, mostly because I used to open the door and talk to them and I knew more about their religion than they did. So I got myself universally blacklisted because these churches do not want their door-knockers to get deconverted. They only want them talking to uneducated gullible types. That means that, for at least a decade, I didn't ever see one of them coming to my door from any religion.

Of course, then I moved and I had to start training a new group of religious zealots. I've had a few come to the door in the past year, I have talked to all of them and, at least over the summer, I've been left in peace, with not only nobody knocking, but no tracts left on the doorstep either. It works.

I can see that but the hose is quicker.

But that wastes water and the police come by and it's honestly not worth the hassle. It got to be that any religious people who dared to come to my door were terrified that I'd open it at all. I watched several women sneak up to my door, stuff a tract under the mat and literally run away. That kind of stuff makes my day.

A hose is fine where I live, maybe you need a super-soaker instead?

The original manuscripts don't exist anymore. You're basing your certainty on translations (of translations) that you have no idea whether they are accurate or not, let alone the editorializing that went into which books became part of the "bible" and those that didn't make the cut. I have no doubt that you have faith they are accurate though.

So then should we throw out all of Caesar's histories and tell everyone that we don't have a clue about that period of time?? They have far less backing their authenticity than the Biblical manuscripts do. We have existing manuscripts produced by the most accurate scribes the world has ever known that are around 100 years removed from the originals. Not only that, but many of those manuscripts have multiple copies with phenomenally high levels of accuracy. Caesar's histories are 700-800 years removed from the originals and the copies that do exist have a high number of discrepancies. But, you're not interested in these kind of facts, the only thing you want to hear are ideas which support your preconceptions - true or not.

Neither my wife nor I have answered the door when random strangers come knocking since 1998. Probably haven't answered the phone since '92.

My mom used to do that until I reminded her that burglars often knock first...

Our barking dogs probably convince them to leave

Oh, agreed!

Anecdote... we drove into our driveway to see the cops just pulling up to talk to us. They said neighbors on both sides of us had been burgled earlier in the day. Wondered if we'd been hit. As we all approached the front door, our 120-pound German Shepherd started barking at the large picture window. "Never mind," they laughed. "You're just fine."

I live down in the woods; people don't come down here. Haven't had one unsolicited solicitor in twenty years.

If one did make it down here, I'd be so impressed I'd probably invite them in and offer them something just out of respect for their courage. :)

One doesn't live their life according to Caesar's histories, not earth shattering if nuances and meanings are lost. Also much of what makes up the old testament is way more than 100 years removed from the originals.

Regardless you're reading too much into my questioning "how do you know". I certainly have my opinions on the matter, but what I was interested in knowing is how other's are so certain their versions are the most accurate and you certainly answered why you believe you are correct. If you ask any religion or any sect/denomination they're all going to think their interpretation of holy books is the correct one and have as compelling reasons (to them) as to why their interpretation of the word of God is the proper one. They all go back to God talked to some guy or some guys saw God do something and we're supposed to have faith that they're telling the truth. I have near zero faith in mankind were power over others is concerned and hence my skepticism. That being said, I'm totally cool if others disagree and think otherwise.

Yep. No burglar wants to mess with dogs, especially big ones with barks that shake walls.

I still remember knocking on the door of a girl I was interested in back in the late 70's. She had a male Chow-Bernese mix. The damn thing was as big as a St Bernard and mean as a junkyard dog. First time I knocked, I thought this Cujo like beast was going to knock the door down.

Weirdest thing, once I got inside---besides the dog watching me like I would make a good snack---was seeing the condition of that door. It looked like it had gotten between a bear and some honey. I swear, if that door had swung out to open, it would never have held shut.
