I love that show. It's the finest example of the power of entrepreneurship on the planet. The five business people, all very wealthy, Mark Cuban is one, evaluate business opportunities from people like us and decide whether to invest or not and at what price. The guests must raise all of the capital they asked for, that often involved giving up much more equity than they originally offered or go home empty handed.
A very interesting show. I've often bought their products. You probably have, too. Scrub Daddy is one of their investments. Lori Greiner's. Many others you've probably heard of as well. They look for new, innovative business ideas and, in effect, pour gasoline on them with their investments, often turning people like us into millionaires. The investors have the power to open distribution channels with a phone call... interviews for the entrepreneurs to pitch their product to major companies, and, in general, do what ordinary people CAN'T do -- open doors.
I have advice for them.
Nobody is going to pay you for good will.
Nobody is going to pay you for potential.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
When you are asking for an investment, you are asking these people to work for you. And they're paying for the opportunity. Make a deal!
Do you have any thoughts about the show? Any advice for wantapreneurs? Have an invention? What do you think of the show and/or its premise?
