The totality is viewed without eye protection. If you try seeing totality with sunglasses on, you'll miss it.thank you. With a really good pair of sunglasses I hope.
On the other hand, sunglasses are not nearly enough protection for the partial. You need dedicated eclipse glasses for that. Or thick enough welding glass.
