New paragola

I just ended up having to rip down my pergola because the building inspector said the former residents didn't bother to get a permit. Of course, I had to go take it down on my own because we were having the house re-roofed and it was attached to the old roof. Now I have a back yard full of wood and am going to have to build a whole new pergola. Joy.

Man sorry about that permit issue. That sucks. Couldn't they work a belated permit for it for you to get?

Small, free-standing structures usually get a pass.
Size of the structure and it's connection to the roof were possible problems.
Depends where you live, too.

After we get the flagstone down we want to plant some vines at each leg and let those take over. It's why I went with metal over wood.

Think about being able to sit under that pergola, and reach up and pull down a bunch of beautifully ripe grapes

Just sayin!

grapes up here and vineyards are a huge thing. Weirdly... those watery fruits love dry climates for some reason.

Nope, I had my roofer go down and try to talk him into something but apparently, the original builder had done it wrong and it was too big so it had to come down. Oh well, you live and learn, I guess.

It wasn't free-standing, it was connected to the roof and it was overspanned too. Such is life.

glad that's in the past for you for the most part. That sucks.

Yeah, except that was one of the nice things about the house, now I just have to have it all completely rebuilt. But at least I can get it the way I want it now.

Exactly. you can put your touch on it.

Just put some finishing touches on it. Got the furniture and assembled it. Planted two english ivy at the base of the two front legs. Will try to train it to take over the structure. Got the solar lights hung. The two solar panels that run them are strapped to and hidden behind the back legs. You can only see them when you go behind the structure next to the back fence. You can see one of them in the third pic. We have a small metal fire pit we have yet to assemble but don't have a whole lot of room left with the coffee table there. Might put it between the two chairs off to the side a bit.

You can always move the covfefe :) table to use the fire pit, better keep that fire small!

Its one of those really shallow metal ones with a grate lid. Couldn't hold much at all in there.

My solar night lights worked just fine. Here's a pic of it although the flash overloaded the lighting so it's much softer than this.

Here's what each light looks like:
