Hi,

Are there any insurance folks here?

Tree roots got into the sewer line which has resulted in sewer backing up into the house. The plumber said the section has to be replaced to the tune of almost 4K!

Need to know if property insurance will cover for something like this. Or am I totally stuck with the bill?

thanks,

Question is is it actually a sewer or a septic tank, In cali my families house had an issue with trees growing into the septic tank, and we used I believe it was copper sulfate to kill them and keep them from growing back. Well atleast in the septic tank that is, to kill the actual trees required cutting them down and using some chemichals to make sure they did not return.

what does your policy say?

interested because i anticipate the same problem before long. my policy will cover problem that results from fluids backing up into the house but will not cover the root problem itself. would be interested in finding an insurer which does cover such accruing damage

Sit down and read your home owner's insurance policy. Carefully.

Then call your insurer.

Are the tree roots on city property or yours? 1 other solution I have heard used are they literally use a drill/cutter of some type and thru the roots in the line. Then again, how old is you line?
4 K- Do you know anyone that can operate a rented backhoe? If so it may be cheaper to dig it out yourself. Plumber lays the lines, you fill it in.

mine. the city is responsible for the sewer line until it reaches the property line

64 years. thus far have been successful snaking it. uncertain how long that will continue to work

interesting approach. i would have to know exactly what to do to take that on, otherwise i could burn thru
a bunch of cash learning that i had no accurate idea what actually needed to be done. i have a basement, so the top of the black pipe would begin at the house more than 8 feet under grade. a lot of trenching would be required

which causes me to be hopeful - if not optimistic - the OP is able to identify an insurer that covers such damage
