Forum bots?

I am a member of another political forum (not sure if I can mention it) We have a new "poster" who has been there 3 days and has posted almost 70 threads. All threads are mainly old headlines with not so much as a second sentence of commentary.

Threads are posted like 5 minutes (sometimes 2 minutes) apart. The bumper sticker phrases have the same flavor and not once has "it" responded to a post in a direct way, just repeats many of the same exact things in many threads.

I swear it is a bot, any thoughts?
 
If it isn't a bot, it's some retard pretending to be one, because they're at the 4. ??? step between 3. Something weird and 5. profit.

I just asked it, "not to be insulting, but many here doubt your humanity, what is 2+2= ? I did not get the answer, can I mention the forum, if you care to see for yourself?

To be on the safe side, I wont, but damn I wish this poster would do it here, I have never seen a more obvious program, out of hundreds of post, it has yet to directly reply to a single post, it cant be a person, and we thought socks were bad!:lamo

This forum seems to be on top of spammers, bots, and the auto posters. Not every site has the resources or the management to act quickly enough. It's kind of like graffiti removal - the quicker the better.

The mod there should just ban him.
 
A good mod/site owner would either have software or the realization to catch bots.

We had a spammer on another forum who would C&P entire articles and post them without a word of commentary. He didn't last long.

Thankfully the "member" is now on post review, over 80 post in 3 days, just a headline and one sentence, some posted 2 minutes apart. Never directly responded to anything, never a single post outside of it's threads. There is no way that is a human.

Sorry if this is a noob question, but why would someone want a post bot anyway? What would be the point?

I am not sure but I think to generate traffic or something? Needless to say, I avoided clicking it's links, I bet they can lead you to some nasty malware. I bet it's the Russians ! :)

It's usually for driving traffic to a linked site but some bots just post the same random crap with no link. The latter, I believe, can be tied to a deeper encroachment on the site.
