This is the very final straw for this day.

The children need to be removed from the home and placed with vetted relatives.

You police officers in ID, UT, and WY are at historic lows in behavior and accountability.

You hurt and kill animals and people willy nilly. You destroy property without thought.

There are many more bad cops in the tri-state area than we realized, and it is getting worse.

This totally pisses me off, too, he should lose his job, but it's hardly the same as "hurting animals and people willy nilly". It was a stupid, costly mistake but it doesn't appear intentional.

I am not talking about hunting animals.

I am talking about officers who think "preserve and protect" does not apply to them individually.

Baby with the bath water.

I read it. Looks like he was a dumbass officer. It has happened where the vehicle malfunctioned and the AC cuts off. It also has happened where officers were given VERY poor first aid lessons for their dogs (poor cold water on dog who is overheated...which will kill them). It also occurs where the dog is a k9 in a dangerous job. But it doesn't seem to me the productive discussion is desired. Just the heads of every officer on the "tri state area."

So tell me. What do you plan to do to fix this?

Sorry, I had misread your post. I've corrected mine.

Of course there are bad/corrupt police officers but that's not the majority.

It does not matter if the event was intentional or not. A law was broken. That stupid police officer should have known better. I do hope they fire his/her ass for such stupidity.

If you think it is "Baby with the bath water," you better read the entire article, and then read what I wrote, because you are confused. The state and city LEO have to step up their game. What are you going to do to encourage more professionalism, blackjack?

I will start by not mindlessly complaining about random events of non professionalism as if they are the rule and not the exception. Then I will continue to support organizations like Basketball Cop. ;)

"Mindlessly" may describe your posts but not mine.

I will complain every time a cop goes off the reservation while continue supporting good policing in the various ways that I can.

Methinks you or yours are tied to the profession.

That's just it, what exactly can be done?

Everyday, almost it seems, I hear about kids dying in overheated cars and I wonder how anyone could possibly leave a child in a car. On the news they were showing new technology about a reminder in the car to check the backseat and apps that help to remind you but in the end if someone just doesn't think to check, these kind of things will happen. Same thing with dogs, yes this cop should be charged with neglect like any other person but like you said, it's more the person being a dumbass than any overall issue.

I'd bet they will.

But maybe not. We all know that gross negligence that rises to the level of incompetency is not a firing or prosecutable offense. Comey said so himself.

There are too many in the tri-state area.

Are there more in the tri state area than elsewhere? I doubt it. Not that that excuses anything.

That's awful, poor thing, I wonder what happened for him to forget he was in there. His handler is likely to be very upset. Not sure how it is in the US, but here, Police dogs live with their handlers and their families and form incredibly close relationships. The handlers I've know personally love their dog.

I'm sure it's no different there.

^^ a classic non sequitur

You can't fix stupid. You can only remove warning labels and hope the problem solves itself.

But seriously. There really is not a solution for a moron. It would be would thing if he couldn't control what happened. But he could.

You are right that does not excuse anything, jimbo.

My question was, Are there more in the tri state area than elsewhere?

I doubt it, Stupidity and carelessness have no geological boundaries.

Had the dog looked like this, it wouldn't have happened.
