So, for the last couple years or so, I've spent time in my day thinking about something that I wanted to know, from the big to the small, natural and super natural. From the laws of thermodynamics, to why is bamboo considered grass.

This thread is for me and others who do the same, to share.

So, today's Google question of the day is, does BAC affect mosquitos. The answer? Not really. It could, but the amount that would be needed to have an effect would be a lethal dose for any human.

I like doing that. I teach my students that way too. If we're talking about a specific topic and they ask a question I don't know the answer to, we look it up together. As the year progresses, they learn to look things up themselves. We also have a bucket where, if they come up with a random question they don't know the answer to, they can write down the question, put it in the bucket and on Fridays or whenever we have extra time we'll go through them. They come up with some pretty good questions.

I once spent the better part of an hour searching the difference between a Hoedown and a Hootenanny because, damn it, I wanted to know.

I have since forgotten which is which.

Well, being a redneck, I'd say, a hoedown has more focus on music and dancing, and a hootenanny is just a party.

If by BAC you mean Bank of America Corporation, ah, the answer is no. Mosquitoes aren't big on investment unless it involves a blood bank.

So, today's question was, why don't many black people go camping. I know, a bit racey, but hey, my black friends couldn't answer it, in fact, my buddy Eric, wants me to call him with the answer.

Which....wasn't simple. Some think it's due to a feeling of throwback to slave days, specifically escaping. I....don't think that's it. Others say it because inner city and urban folk don't know or enjoy the outdoors, and don't trust country bumpkins. It's possible. But then, I see black folk out at those same parks, barbequing, having a fire, etc. They just don't spend the night. Still others say that it's economic, that poor and lower middle class folks don't see the value in spending a fair amount of money to simulate extreme poverty.

Black guys in the middle of the woods at night surrounded by white red necks with ropes and fires.

I think I can see why they don't camp overnight

A joke no offense

Today's Google question....what is the difference between a ruby and a garnet, and what makes them red?

Well, a ruby is one substance, a crystalline form corundum, aluminum oxide, which is why it has a blood red and sometimes brown color.

Garnets are actually a combination of 7 different silicates, with the red ones being primarily almandine. Apparently, garnets come in a variety of wildly different colors....but I've only ever seen red ones.

Google question of the day....when was the first documented or provable existence of homosexuality?

According to Google, some cave dood from over 5,000 years ago was buried in way typically reserved for the ladies....but then, there is hard evidence of it with the Egyptians. Gotta love Egyptians, with their detailed record keeping.
