Racist Comedy

Now, I think this routine is great. I love the joke... BUT... why is it that it seems that only black people can make racist jokes about them being on the abusive end of white hooded clansmen, murdering white cops, etc but white people can't make jokes about murdering street gangs of black thugs?

Black comedian on Trailer trash white people? All good.

White comedian on black inner city failing student athlete? Racism.

Anybody about a Jew that is not Jewish? Racist.

Are there double standards? I think that there are. Why if you agree and why not if you don't?

I turn off my PC filter when it is time to watch standup. Standup is probably my favorite art form and I give the comic all the leeway in the world. But in general it is bad comedy to "punch down". There are some white comedians who are talented enough that they can do racial humor and still be funny, like Bill Burr and Louis CK. But even when they do it it doesn't feel like they are punching down. But most don't do it because most can't make it funny.
 
Black people didn't sail to Europe, and rape/pillage their way through while gathering up slaves to transport back to Africa.

And even Bill Burr rides that line sometimes where you think, man, this would actually be pretty awkward if I were listening to this with one of my black friends.

I think Louis CK is the only white comic I've seen say the N-word and actually get a head nod instead of instant indignation. Ain't nothing worse..... than falling asleep on a forklift"

Your right, a good many of them decided that the best way to cut back on tribal warfare was to sell each other off the the slave ships.

Go read a book for cripes sake.

Slavery was ugly as sin, but it was just as black as it was white. You might be interested in reading about 3 western African nations who made formal apologies to it's citizens for making money off the slave trade.

I watch Tosh.O and he makes a ton of racist jokes and the show is still on. I think the only joke he really got flack for was a rape joke he did one time.

Same here, and my sense of humor is very diverse and irreverent, but I do also see the double-standard.

As a society we keep saying we want equality, but our actions suggest we still want forms of segregation.

White people didn't round up slaves and sell them either. That was black people in Africa. But, you know... reality and all.

These guys could be funny without being/using racist material..

I think today's black comedians have to rely on this "racist" style material more or they would have no material at all..

What about Mr. Warmth?? Don Rickles.. He left no race untouched.. But he also was a classy guy..

There are also those who dismiss arguments as mere talking points because they're unable to address them. These people tend to prefer to talk about people rather than their claims, they also tend to resort to namecalling.
