Child forced to sit in mother's lap after United takes his seat away on Houston flight

But when she and her son, Taizo, boarded the flight from Houston to Boston, Yamauchi said a flight attendant asked whether she was the boy's mother. When she said she was, the flight attendant left.
A man came over shortly after and told Yamauchi he would be sitting in her son's seat.
"I told the flight attendant about our situation, but she shrugged and told me the flight was full," she told the Chronicle. "I paid $969 for my son's ticket.
.
.
.
United Airlines admitted, five days after the flight, that Yamauchi's son should have kept his seat.
"On a recent flight from Houston to Boston, we inaccurately scanned the boarding pass of Ms. Yamauchi's son," the airline said in a statement.

So they did a way wrong thing in both taking the seat and then not being upfront about it....they simply run this woman over......and then they lie about it to us ...... And clearly they dont have systems in place that work to prevent this sort of thing, something that many generations of our ancestors COULD manage I feel like I need to say......

These people have gotten very very bad, because America increasingly does not work, nor does hardly anyone seem to care that American increasingly does not work, the society no long works top properly reward good behavior and useful skills, not to punish those do things poorly.

This is all of our faults, for not demanding standards, for not having enough decency, because we dont have enough self respect anymore, so used to being submissive we have become. So accepting of the lies and other manipulations and the bad work and the bad morals of those who run the show.

I just want to note that, ultimately, the woman was reimbursed for both tickets and received additional compensation. She handled her end like an adult and came out ahead, not a victim.

I have standards, and I demand them. But it is a general societal fault, yes.

We will all come out ahead if United is made to heal.

What they did was not OK.

When was the last time you ever heard a word of this from the so-called journalists?

This is a super important story, that we would have someone to tell us this story of our failing is practically the whole reason we keep journalists around.

I hear very little from those chaps about this.

They're busy tracking down people who post mean things about CNN to bother with this important news.

Misplaced priorities is indeed the story, that and a failure to even attempt to do the job right, which is so America 2017!

I'm not suggesting that what United did was OK. All I'm saying is that she she handled herself in an adult manner and still got positive results.

As much as money after the fact can make one whole after they have been inconvenienced by being run over.

Taping up victims is not what winning looks like.

Winning is not making victims.

From the link:
Yamauchi told Hawaii News Now that she didn't press the issue for fear of retaliation.
"I started remembering all those incidents with United on the news. The violence. Teeth getting knocked out. I'm Asian. I'm scared, and I felt uncomfortable. I didn't want those things to happen to me," she said.
And who wants to speak up here and doubt this?

This is really where we are in America, this is where massive mismanagement of this society has delivered us.

Balderdash. 99.9% of trips on United Airlines and other carriers go just fine, but when you fly 400,000 passengers a day rare problems and goof ups seem common. This sort of thing happens all the time, but the news media has been on the lookout for these sorts of stories ever since the Doctor got himself dragged off of the plane.

If a member of the airline crew tells me to leave the plane I will do so quietly and thereby avoid becoming a item in the news. If I have a problem with being removed I'll take that up at the appropriate time and in the appropriate venue. It is important in the meantime, though, that passengers do what the crew members tell them to do. The safety of the whole plane may depend on that.

Balderdash, American keeps doing things that should never happen, things which can happen only because the company is poorly run.

This is valid, but... it doesn't absolve United from what is apparently corporate culture to treat their customers like crap. If anything, these stories need to keep being reported so that maybe United will change their corporate mindset.
