I tagged this day in my mind for one reason. June 17, 1994 approximately marks the beginning of the best two years of my life. Because of that event, even 23 years later, it's easy for me to peg the exact moment my life began to evolve from bored husband in an unhappy marriage to wild child set loose on a 24-month bender.

Good times. Glad I didn't let it ride though. I'd be dead.

Kee-rist. I was in LA on my first career, with a German fiancee, driving to see friends in (blech) Palmdale over the LA Crest.

It was the hardest thing to try and explain to her why it was SUCH a big deal, how he was beloved (then, at least) and a childhood hero and how odd it was to me as well, as an American, that people were standing on freeway overpasses with signs supporting him.

My fiancee. "Why are so many police following him? Why don't they get in front of him?"

"They think he might kill himself or AC, the guy with him."

My finacee: "So what?"

Ah, that good old German practicality.

I was in middle school, doing a report on Enron.

Heh. It was a big decade.

Crazy stuff. My new gf at the time--the violinist--had about the same reaction when she came over after her concert later that night. I said OJ this, and Bronco chase that. Her response, "Who cares?" Then we jumped in bed and had sex.

Ah, the good old days.

Funny I remember the day too. We were driving through Chicago, World Cup of all things was going on, on our way back from OH to MT after visiting my wife's family. 1800 miles one way with a 5yo, 3yo and 1 1/2 yo old in the van... fun times.

3 pre-school aged kids on a two thousand mile road trip

Clealy we've adopted that practicality these days.

Literally, the very first thing I thought on reading this, was Lewis Black, saying "kill yourself".

lol, I know, each way. We were nuts. I used to sleep from 5pm to about 10pm right before leaving, pack the kids up and drive through the night while they slept. Did the trip in 2 days 20ish hours first day and 15ish hours second day.

i had just completed my freshman year in college, and was picking out a Pentium 60 around that time.

Playing poker with my buddies on my dining room table. Don't remember what I did the day before or the day after (or anything else that happened that year) but I remember that.

Speaking of computers, '94 marks roughly when I first began to use 3-D mechanical design software. UG, if I remember correctly.

I thought the same thing. So what if he kills himself. Problem solved.
