IMG_0653.jpgOk, so here's the shed at the back of my property. It's being renovated inside and out. The guys put a new latch on the front door. I went out there for something yesterday, very windy day. The door blew shut and I was locked in the shed. The window doesn't open. So I'm yelling hoping someone will hear me... loudly banging out SOS on the small overhead door that was also locked. The window doesn't open. Cosmetic only. FINALLY a neighbor went out for his mail...a hundred feet away, I'd guess. Heard me and let me out. I was crying like a little girl.

ever happen to you? One time I w not down in my crawl space thinking I could just boost myself up. Well.... no! Another debacle. Is it just me?

how about you?

Probably about a half hour. I'm yelling at the neighbor as he's getting my mail... he finally located the sound and saw me waving frantically from the window. He waved back. LOLOLs. I'm going NUTZ. He finally got it and ran around the houses into the yard. He was my Prince Charming, and I was a blubbering fool. Yeh, I agree. sitcom.

What's in the shed? Tools? Take the door off the hinges?

I would have busted the damned window and THEN billed the guy who put a door in with no way of opening it from the inside.

I have had a door blow shut locking me out, but never locking me in. I am pretty sure that you need to change the latch, there are lots of options, the one picked has serious flaws.

Yep, sure did...when we moved to this house in 2008, I was trying to get things organized...hubby was running errands...I was in my robe and went out on the deck for some reason...well the stupid locks on our doors stay locked until you turn the little thingie in the center of the knob, even when you open the door, it does not pop out...so I go out on the deck and shut the door behind me because it was still cold outside...early April......well...you guessed it ...I locked myself out and our deck is on the 2nd floor, with no steps...I was stuck ...til hubby came home...thought I was gonna freeze to death ...I was never so glad to see him in all my life...rule of the house from then on...do not use the lock in the door knob...use the dead bolt...:inandout:

I have locked myself out of places on numerous occasions, but never in.

A long time ago, when I was in high school, my mom locked herself in the bathroom. The handle malfunctioned and she couldn't unlock it. And I was unable to unlock it with the bent coat hanger, which usually worked. Something inside the locking mechanism had malfunction.

She was about to have me call the fire department when I suggested I could try kicking the door in. She was hesitant. Afraid I might hurt myself. But I convinced her by reminding her she had spent all that money on sending me to karate classes. Now she could get a return on investment. :)

It took several tries, and I actually did hurt myself a little. Turns out kicking bags and kicking doors are different things. :) But I got it open.

Yep a few days ago. Told my daughter what happened. Had to knock on the window to get my wife to let me out.
Warned my daughter- happened to her the next day- twice- she learned on the 2nd time, as I was out and opened the door for her.
Warned her after it happened to me, place the table across to keep it from being caught by the wind.
Thing is I am sure there are handles you can install that work on both sides, but after it happened to me I will be looking to install one

Good point.

Makes me feel sooo good!!

One of my friends in college was leaning into the trunk of her car and somehow ended up IN the trunk locked in. It was an older car without the release latch. She yelled for help for awhile. I can't remember how long she was in there, but this is how she got out. She found a piece of paper and some electrical tape in the trunk. She tore piece of the tape to spell out "HELP" on the paper and then slid it out the tiny opening in the trunk.

Love it!

Love your shed, it's so cute. Something similar happened to my mom, she replaced her lock with a latch on the outside and locked herself in the shed and when she couldn't open the old windows just broke it and climbed out. I would probably freak out, I hate enclosed spaces like that.

Yep, something similar happened to me. I got locked in a car.

I'm an automotive engineer, so I bring test cars home occasionally on the weekends. A few years ago I brought home one of the cars I was working on because I needed to do a couple cold starts on Saturday and Sunday.

These cars had electronic door latches inside and out. You pushed a little button inside to open the door, there was no mechanical handle. These cars were also notorious around our office for having a lot of battery problems.

So I got in the car, closed the door and started getting my laptop set up to take a measurement. Normally this only took a couple minutes, but that day it froze up and I had to restart it. In the time that took, the car's battery died. With the battery dead, the push button to open the door didn't work.

There was supposed to be a manual emergency handle down in the map pocket, but the plastic handle had broken off this one and I couldn't get a good enough grip on the thin cable to pull it open.

So I ended up having to honk the car horn until it woke my wife up and she came downstairs to jump start the car and I could get out. She was not happy.

1, Extremely pretty shed. I thought it was a house at first glance.

2, I am the type who can open doors with brute force and ignorance. Mostly ignorance. And any decent leaver that happens to be lying around. It is generally a question of how much damage you are OK about doing.

3, Hey you survived. Keep fighting!

Don't feel too bad Maggie!

I was in a really tight crawl space yesterday (6/17) under a old house replacing some copper pipes with PEX & Sharkbites for a bath remodel I am doing. I was about 1/2 way through the work when I heard some loud hissing a couple feet behind my head. It startled me, and as I turned to look around, there was a raccoon about 3 feet from me and edging closer. I started freaking out, hollering, and swinging a 4' length of Pex at the coon while trying to crawl away backwards as fast as I could. They owner was hollering through the floors asking me if I was OK. I was about 1/2 way to the access when my coveralls got caught on a nail sticking out of a floor joist. I could hear the Coon still coming at me and raising hell. I had one hand trying to free my coveralls, and the other swinging a piece of Pex at the coon. This went on for about 10 minutes and finally the homeowner was screaming through the floor about calling the fire department and they are on their way. I finally reached out and grabbed a support stanchion and pulled myself free ripping my coveralls from my ass up up my shoulders. I finally squeezed through the access backwards trying to keep a eye on the Coon not realizing that two young EMT's were getting a up close up view of my "Fruit Of the Looms". They were doing their best not to bust out laughing after they were sure that I didn't get bit.

I ended up getting 3 butterfly stitches and a update for Tetanus because I have a cut from my lower back all the way to my shoulder blade. After I left the Urgent Care Clinic, I made the mistake of telling one of my contractor Friend's and my son about the incident. My cell phone was ringing all night long, and I have a dozen or so texts from my asshole buddies wanting know in detail about my heroic battle with the coon.

Some very funny stories here! Thanks for sharing with us. Guess Indont feel quite so bad. Ha!

I had a regular door on my garage once with a regular locking door knob and managed to lock myself out.

Since then, I've changed all of the locks on the entry to garages to either Dead Bolt only or to non-locking doors.

Your shed looks Great!

Demand that guy change it to a user friendly version. My only similar experience was when I was put in a confinement cell in the county jail for 90 days at age 17. No matter how nicely I asked, I was not allowed out to play!:)

I asked for it. No victim card here!

One of my friends was up at her summer trailer. Her husband had been up on the roof fixing it and had to go into town to get some more supplies. She went up the ladder to check out his work.

The ladder fell.

oops

She sat up on the roof for quite some time. Apparently it was really hot.

I am more likely to lock my keys inside my truck.. Finally started keeping a spare in my billfold.

I just did something more stupid

I ran over myself with my truck

My wife was going to get out and look for something in the house, but then asked me to instead. I thought I had the truck in park but did not. As I got out the truck moved forward as it was in drive. I tried to get back in, slipped and had the rear wheel stop on top of my leg. My wife had to get out and back it up. She was not used to the truck so it took her a bit of time to find reverse.

I truly feel like an idiot today
