How do you feel about these parking signs?

I don't park anywhere that doesn't have a "Reserved for Humbolt" sign. I carry the sign with me in the bed of the truck to be on the safe side.

The expectant mother one makes perfect sense, especially for women who are far along.

I'm sorry, the sentiment is nice but the "Super Hero" one is ridiculous. I'm a veteran and would never park in that spot. I can't think of many people who qualify to park there who would actually park there.

My gym has one of these:

Which makes more sense for a parking spot close to the entrance. But I don't know of many Purple Heart recipients who would want to draw attention to themselves like that. Which is probably why in three years I have never seen anyone parked there. If they have a disability as a result of combat they probably would just park in the regular "handicap" spot.

Hero - kind of silly, doesn't seem to make sense as needed or helpful (to anyone, it would be embarrassing to me to park there)
Pregnant - One or two in a moderate sized business seems like a good idea. I agree kind of with Henrin (I had to write that just because ya know), that ideally it's "baby soon" type of thing. Otherwise it invites non-pregnant women to abuse it, and that's the sort of thing that annoys.

It's private property, they can put up whatever signs they want.

That parking lot is, I presume, private property. The business can do as they wish with their property. In fact, they can...with suitable warning...have your vehicle towed if you violate their sign. Bitching about it is useless. Taking your business elsewhere is your most effective means of objection.
But this is about your feelings .

Take your legal hat off, lay back, relax, in this "free from judgement" zone, and tell us how you feel about those signs.

On military installations, they recently implemented a directive that commissaries, exchanges, and a few other locations should have designated parking spots for Gold Star Families. I get it as a show of respect for the families and their loss. At our installation we are a closed facility not accessible to the public or even military ID card holders without a mission related reason to be on the facility...and we have no gold Star families. Yet...we still have dedicated parking spaces and they still insisted on setting up an office to issue special ID cards and work with Gold Star Family members. Never been used...any of it.

I'm fine with the designated parking spots. I can see it for new or expecting mothers. I dont know of any veterans that would utilize it...except maybe a disabled vet.

Ambivalence

I certainly don't mind reserved parking for individuals who are having difficulties getting around.

I wished my grocery store would have had parking for pregnant and young mothers when I was in that way. At nine months with a toddler trying to maneuver a grocery cart was a real challenge.

Those designated for the handicap are a must though I do think people abuse them. But nevertheless they are there for those who need them. Which reminds me of something that happened a few months ago. There was an older gentleman coming out of our Kroger store and was having a real difficult time walking. It was taking him a long time to cross the main lane in front of the store and drivers were so impatient with him the were trying to squeeze around him or turn down the aisle that he was clearly head. So I went down another aisle and came up the aisle he was headed and used my car as a blockade to keep people from turning down the aisle. I pissed some people off. I got out of my car and went up to the gentleman and told him I would be glad to drive him to his car. He showed me he was 7-9 cars in, (no vacancies in the handicap section) so I told him to put his arm around me and lean on me. He did. I took his bag he was carrying and we slowly made it to his car. He shared with me that his wife who does most of the running is very sick and needed a prescription and that is why he was at Kroger. He introduced himself and said his name was Charlie. I introduced myself and when he finally got inside his car he turned to me and said "I will never forget you." I offered to follow him home incase he had a problem getting into the house. He said no, that he will pull right into the garage and it is just a few steps from there.

So yeah I am all for handicap parking, pregnant women and very small children, disabled vets......it is all good by me.

In the parking lot of my local grocery store. The two parking spaces are right next to each other.

They do not carry the weight of law. Do they bother you for any reason? Do you think they're a good idea? Is one a good idea and the other not? Should we expand this idea to other categories of people?

They're fine with me.

I have no feelings about the signs. I don't care. They are private businesses and can post whatever they want in their parking lots. Maybe a better question is: why do you feel something about those signs?

Pregnant women should be able to park close to enterences, the more walking they do the higher the risk of miscarys.
The firefighter/police ones should be for only on duty personall. Cuz we want them to be able to respond. But the off duty ones no get to the back of parking lot like everyone else.
