Is this website planning on renewing their SSL certificate?

Is this website planning on renewing their SSL certificate?
Firefox is telling me the certificate doesn't expire until January 2, 2018.

I don't even know the implications of an ssl certificate renewal nor even that it it periodically. Does every site need it?

Only sites that care about privacy and security. Basically an SSL certificate is an encryption key for a specific organization, all the data transmitted on DP is encrypted by SSL.

No, not every site. However, any site which wants/needs you to input personal details, including passwords, should have an SSL cert installed. Obviously the renewal is important for...well, I'm sure you can figure that out. :)

Short version: if a website has a password, or other personal information of any sort, and doesn't use SSL... don't use that website.

Strange, my firefox tells me there is no SSL certificate for the site. I'm presuming that's false, right?

Are you still connecting with an old bookmark that is http:// instead of https:// ?

What Deuce said.

Try typing in https:// and then the domain manually and see if you get the SSL notice. Because the cert is there. I've seen it.
