The mother Pip (short for Pipsqueak) presented us with her three newest kittens today. She originally showed up to share our dog's food and water but when we noted her being pregnant and having trouble getting into the dog pen we started feeding her cheap dry cat food.

You want some more? We recently moved and took one freal with us, had her fixed. We had another we could not take as she had 3 kitts. I have been going back daily to feed her, and will get her fixed and bring her home when the kitts are weaned. Not every day you are offered free, multiple, *****ies!

Very cute, are you planning on fully domesticating them?

No, thank you, we have plenty in the area.

No, we have an old indoor only cat now. I do plan to get them fixed. Pip is fairly friendly and a good hunter occasionally bringing us "treats" - today's was a headless mockingbird but the kittens are not weaned yet.

Well if you get them fixed then you are doing the right thing.
Maybe one day your cat will become friendly with them, or maybe not.

Awwww. I only have a few feral cats that I feed on a regular basis and only one will even approach me, but none the less I do what I can for them. They have learned to stay out of the fenced area my home is on, the dogs (3), while raised with a cat have no deal with other cats.

So far, both of our dogs have "adopted" any feral cats/kittens bold enough to come visit them in their pens.

I love cats in general, but those little guys are just TOO cute. I used to do a few things to help a cat rescue group, and it disgusted me to see how badly many cats are treated. A lot of slobs around L.A. find the bother of changing a cat pan, or the cost of taking their cat with them when they move, or feeding it, or paying its vet bills, cuts into their budget for cheap beer or lotto tickets or cigarettes, so they just abandon it. In too many cases that means an agonizing death by being hit in the street or torn apart by coyotes, and kittens are especially vulnerable.

I fostered a big gray shorthair for a while who had gotten FIV (a kitty version of HIV that's been observed even in African lions) from fights he'd gotten into, and when the rescuers trapped him, he was in bad shape. They got him to the vet to get his mange, worms, fleas, and infected wounds attended to, but several of his teeth were broken and had to be pulled. I was able to get Monroe pretty well socialized, to the point that he'd purr like crazy and sleep on the bed, but he was so determined to get outside--and clever about doing it--that the rescue group finally had to take him back. At least he still had good care at their digs, and I hope they were able to place him in someone's house for the rest of his days.

ALWAYS. With all the free spaying and neutering services around, I don't see any excuse for not doing this. And there are very few situations in which a cat is not better off indoors.

Those are so cute! About 6 weeks old?

Seems about right, we were getting worried about them (smelled a skunk yesterday morning) but today she was finally out with them. Our indoor cat could hear the kittens under our single-wide but seemed to have lost interest in them yesterday. I have some junk piled next to our outdoor refrigerator on our covered deck and the kittens now scamper into it to hide when the dog gets excited or folks come to the door. For such a tiny mother the three kittens seem to be quite healthy.

Mine do not seem to have the same deal, so far any cats that have come over from the rest of my property have been lucky but there have been close calls. Not so much for the possum and raccoon that tried their luck, and the Squirrels are always on a open hunting season, usually not much left when they go after them together and they always come as a pack, I almost feel sorry for them, almost. So far only a baby skunk gave them a run for their money, but they are smart dogs and know when they meet their match, took 3 days to get the snick off, along with banishment to my shop for the duration.
