United just discovered what most of us know and many corporations and most of government don't yet know or understand. The citizens of the United States are pissed plenty. We are sick and damned tired of being screwed over, used, abused, taken for granted, taken advantage of, marginalized, worked over, worked around, lied to, robbed and treated like dirt.
Americans are pissed at ever growing conglomerates, narrowing of consumer choices, deregulations, bail outs, government lies and flim flam, and corpgov. We are fed up with Big Pharma, Wall Street, Big Banking, Big Insurance, dwindling choices with airlines, wireless providers, satellite and cable companies and on and on. Americans are frustrated and extremely tired of getting the short end of the stick.
United completely misjudged the American public. Their PR response will be a classic lesson regarding how to do it wrong in J-schools and business schools for years to come. First and foremost was/is United's disconnect from the people who keep them in business - consumers. United arrogance combined with America's neo-militarism resulted in an ugly display of corporate power and lack of concern. The People do not like it. We will see more and more expressions of public disgust for more and more businesses and government.
It is probably safe to say that United just became aware of the vast and growing disconnect between Americans and all things corpgov. There is no way United would fare well in a court with a jury of American citizens. For the most part Americans are not happy with airlines and their monopolies. Flying is not fun anymore. Choices between airlines are relatively few. Customer are treated like animals.
No, given the opportunity Americans would nail United's hide to the door. United will settle out of court.
