Cool Animals?

I was sitting in a coffee shop early this rainy morning and as I was looking out the window I noticed a Mallard Duck walking about 10 feet away from me, crossing the street. I thought that if there was no such thing as Mallards and I saw it for the first time I would be shocked at how beautiful it was. Their colors are so vibrant and well proportioned and seem to go so perfectly together and they have those cool orange flippers. Dogs are actually my favorite because they have personalities as well as a cool appearance and they're so loyal and so thrilled just to be around us. Are there any that you find adorable or cool or beautiful or awesome or all of the above?

I certainly understand. There are so gorgeous birds out there:

A wood duck. An early flier (mallards like to fly later in the morning). These guys are found in flooded timber and swamps mainly. Very impressive fliers too.

Then there is the mandarin. I've only seen 3 in montreat in the winter:

I have two favorite animals. I have never been able to pick between the two.

Owls have always seemed majestic to me. And being master of the night sky has to be pretty cool. And I love SCUBA diving so I am jealous of how sea turtles spend their days and of how long they live. Plus they are cute. :)

:agree The only time I've seen an owl in the wild was when a neighbor was lucky enough to have a young one fall asleep on his window sill and woke up too late. And I love all forms of turtles. I love seeing the regular turtles making their way across the pond at the state park near my house. I found a baby one about this small and I posted the picture here a couple of years ago but don't remember exactly where.

I love animals. In fact, I think the ugliest animal in the world is still prettier than the most beautiful human.

Miraculous beauty can be found in every one of them.

His bill will hold more than his belican.
He can take in his beak
Food enough for a week;
But I'm damned if I see how the helican.

Mallards are so ubiquitous, that yes, we tend to take them for granted. I however, do appreciate them. We have a pair that have been hanging out in our pond for a few weeks already.

I am a big fan of just about all avians. A couple of local favorites of mine are, the Blue Herron, and the Turkey Vulture.

With their effortless soaring, and their massive wingspan, the Turkey Vulture is an absolutely magnificent bird to watch in flight.

The Blue Heron is another magnificent flier.

Last year we had a Mallard lay a huge clutch of eggs right up in our yard. We tried to cover her nest up with pine branches to protect her as best we could, but alas, something got to her eggs before they could hatch. :(
