Tomorrow (Friday) is National Crayon Day. One of the Crayola Crayon colors will be retired. Which one do you think needs to go? Any good crayon stories/memories?

I've always found coloring to be very relaxing. I remember in college, I bought a kids coloring book and box of crayons just to de-stress a bit.

I didn't watch Sesame Street or The Muppets and I hated coloring but I did dig me some Etch A Sketch.

The color to go should be 'Purple'. It left with Prince.

Ah -- but which purple? Lilac? Vivid Violet? Plum? Purple Pizzazz?

I legit did the same thing, except with colored pencils, not too long ago. Just something really soothing about the pretty mindless repetitive motion and then having a little thing to show for it.

As a child growing up in the desert southwest, I learned not to leave them outside in the summer.

I remember always wanting the big box of Crayola crayons with the sharpener on the back.

Crayon memory- In first grade I got into a debate with Ron Hazelip who insisted that he was Black. My position was that he was brown and I had the crayon to prove it. The end result was that he was, indeed, brown but his hair was black.

Crayon memory #2 - 2nd grade. Just before Valentine's day. Our project was to cut out and color a heart. Completed projects would be displayed on the wall. I opted to go with a plaid pattern which was heavy on blues and browns. My heart did not make it onto the wall.

"Cerulean" is a color?

They got rid of "Dandelion" and kept "Cerulean"?

I personally love art. When I was only 3 my dad taught me how to draw, he taught me art from 3 until now 13...I have a great dad.
I hate to see colors retire, they are a great thing.

My crayon memory was leaving them in that area behind the rear seats, under the rear wind shield glass...to have them melt, and ruin the upholstery of my moms car. She was upset.

I admit I recently bought an "adult" coloring book :) I used colored pencils though. Kind of missed the smell of the crayons!

oooh! Loved my Etch A Sketch!

I remember always wanting the big box of Crayola crayons with the sharpener on the back.

One school year my parents bought my younger sister this box but bought me the one with only 48 crayons. I was so aggrieved that as an adult, I bought myself the big box. Actually, for Christmas I bought myself the even bigger box called "The Ultimate" with 152 crayons and several dollar-store coloring books (musical instruments, flowers, and etc.)

Here is the sad news: Some of the 152 colors are basically dupes with different names, and worse, the coloring book paper is wrong. Not sure if this is the correct term, but the paper isn't "pulpy" enough. It's too "glossy," which makes coloring more difficult. You have to push really, really hard. Bummer. The paper should be like the paper in "Big Chief" tablets. (Remember those?)

Exactly, why retire a color on Crayon Day. They should add one.

I had that.

Crayola was the only way to go. I hated those waxy crayons that didn't color worth a darn.

I find coloring relaxing too. My daughter loves art and to color so we like to have some quiet time and just color. I like that it's making a comeback with the new styles and books.
