Im very close to purchasing a new toy for myself, at this point Its If I want a new or used Ural. For those that don't know what a Ural is, It’s a Russian Motorcycle with a sidecar. What makes them unique is that they have off road capability and even do well in the snow. This is achieved by engaging the shaft/axel to the sidecar which turns one wheel drive into two wheel drive.

I got turned onto the Ural last winter, there is a local gentleman that rides one year around even during snow storms. I have been researching all the pros and cons for over a year, the biggest con is that they are not Interstate friendly for long rides, top speed is 70mph on level ground with the wind at your back so realistically 55 or 60mph.

One other con is that the pre 2017 models use the same design gear box from 1942, very clunky. The newer models also have rear disc brake where pre 2017 only in the front.

So any Ural riders out there?

Here is a used 2013 model to give you an idea of what a Ural is and what I’m considering, the first change I would make is the exhaust, they make a great upper exhaust to give more ground clearance.

Yup,, I think this bike will get me to the grocery store
