Jackie Speier - accompanied Rep. Leo Ryan in 1978 to Guyana to confront Rev. Jim Jones. A gun battle ensued. Rep. Ryan lost his life. Ms. Speier survived five bullet wounds. The incident became known as The Jonestown Massacre. Roughly 900 people committed suicide.
