McDonald's hits bum note with 'epic fail' St Patrick's day shamrock shake advert

Fast-food giant McDonald's has hit a bum note with their advertisement for the Shamrock shake.

Web users have blasted the 10 second clip, shared on their official Twitter page ahead of St Patrick's day.

Under the word 'instrumint' it shows an actor with a Scottish tartan hat playing the mint and chocolate shamrock shake like a bagpipe.

Behind him there are clips of sheep walking in rolling hills, which could possibly be in Ireland. And there is a clip of a rainbow that could be anywhere in the world.

But it then cuts to footage of Stonehenge, which is most definitely not in the Emerald isle.

Seriously...? Bagpipes? Tartan Hat?

STONEHENGE?

Video at the link, I couldn't figure out how to link it.

As my Irish granny would mutter...mccrecka mcrea....(McDonald's?)

(and the guy looks like he is in the taliban for Xenu's sake)

All can be forgiven if McDonalds throws some Irish Whiskey in the shake.

Ever go to a foreign country and go to a bar/restaurant that is either American themed, or your state theme? I jokingly went into a place called "Arizona" in Sydney. It was frightening, I told the waitress I was from Phoenix, she said..."where is that?" It made AZ look like a bad 50's cowboys and indians TV show.

I've not had that particular experience, but I have been amused at times with the mental pictures some foreigners have about Virginia and southeastern United States.

Same with most " Irish" bars in the US.

I will say that I once had a green mint milkshake at McDonalds in Dublin. I liked it.

The only people who deserve to be criticized here are people who pay any attention at all to advertising. Who the hell cares?

I lived in Cambodia three years. They had a pizza place there that was basically a Pizza Hut ripoff. They had one pizza called "American Pizza". One of the toppings on it was corn. I guess because Americans eat a lot of corn???

You just got to laugh at such things.

I ate pizza once in Van Vieng, Laos, it was quite tasty. As I got to my last bite, I saw the rats that were climbing up the walls....lovely.

I was at a place on Sunday in town that has corn on pizza...and hatch chilies, its a new foodie thing.

Corn on pizza is not at all uncommon. Rats on pizza... not so much.

As an individual of English descent, it is my duty and obligation to oppress and steal all I can from the Irish. Except the potatoes, you can have those.

I could care less.

It's McDonald's...not Harvard.

They could put the Star of David in a Christmas carol OR put a picture of Red Square in a July 4'th commercial for all the **** I would care.

It's McDonald's....taking McDonald's seriously is like looking for a plot in a porn film....pointless.
