Woolly Mammoth Could Be ‘De-Extinct’ In 2 Years, Scientist Says

As I understand it, the gigantism that was typical of so many Pleistocene mammals was an adaptation to generally colder temperatures. The fact they were larger meant they had a smaller surface area from which to lose body heat, relative to their mass, than their modern counterparts. If this hybrid were created, then, it seems likely they would be quite a bit larger and hairier than Asian elephants and would have to live in pretty cold areas. I suppose there could be enough evergreen trees and smaller plants around even in the Far North to fuel animals this large. Either put them there, or keep them in zoos under controlled conditions and feed them whatever delicacies they liked.

Maybe we could re-create other Pleistocene behemoths, like the La Brea Lion, the Short-Faced Bear, and the Giant Ground Sloth. If so, just don't have them roaming around the L.A. hills, please.

I could understand if it was for some sort of significantly-life-extending technology, but just because "why the heck not" is a serious waste of time, money and resources, in my opinion.

Glad I decided to browse the thread. I actually have one good reason to learn this. We know life on this planet is doomed. The sun, the climate, meteors, and so on. We just discovered 7 planets that could sustain life. We know that long term life in a space ship could change our biology. Imagine if we could travel all that way in a semi short amount of time. Any negative effects of long term space travel could be reversed. Theoretically speaking of course.
