Me and the wife are trying to plan a weekend getaway in the next couple of months. Just the two of us to get away from the boys for a few days. All we're looking to do is find a cheap flight to some city and just explore it for a few days. Right now on the top of the list is Portland.

We just got back from a weekend at Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco). Just an easy 4 hour drive down from Phoenix, nice hotels, great food, good beaches and fun. We had zero wait at the US border coming back, but a very rare wait at the border getting in to Mexico...first time I've ever had that.

Portland is nice, but you never know what kind of weather you get. Or just be like all other zonies and go to San Diego (though I prefer Carlsbad)

I guess it all depends on how long your "weekend is" Last time I was in Phoenix with the wife, we drove up to the Grand Canyon, ( may still be some snow up there in a couple months ) then went over to Page AZ for a camera tour of Antelope canyon. Then on to Monument Valley ( stopped briefly ) then up to Moab UT, Saw Dead Horse Point ( Awesome) and on up to Arches Nation Park. From there up & over to Zion Nation Park, then to Vegas for a quick stop over.

As you can tell We are National park junkies...

Not sure what route you took from Phoenix to the GC, but if you went by way of Sedona that is a spectacular drive.

We are as well, but we are going to get out of the state for this trip.

The last time I went to Rocky Point I passed out on the beach and woke up around the point in a bed between two girls from K Mart.

You wouldn't recognize it now...Sandy Beach is all condos and hotels. Still, its a great easy fun weekend.

Well, I gotta admit, Omaha wasn't on my radar.

If you come up with a place, let me know, I am the king of 3 day weekends....of course flying for free makes it easy :2razz:

Other than the weather Portland should be great. Good food, funky beer, lots of stoned people chasing shiny things...
