When was the last time you flew on an airline?

My last flight was Sept. 2010, to Calgary Canada, rented a car and drove to Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper, 10 day vacation with the wife. This, and a long ago trip to Hawaii are the two best of my life.

I have tried to avoid flying because of the security measures after 9/11. I find them intrusive. I was pulled aside once for an unknown transgression and interrogated, and I resent it. I was just a business traveler back then, just trying to get home. They make you take your shoes off. I don't like being treated like a criminal, so I choose to avoid places that do stuff like that. I'll fly if I MUST, but I avoid it if I can. There are plenty of great vacation destinations within driving distance.

Does it count if I jumped out of it a couple miles up?

Basic question, I ask because the last time I flew on a commercial flight was in 1996, I was four years old at the time. A friend told me I am wierd because I've visited 19 states/provinces (Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, South Dakota, Florida, and British Columbia) and yet haven't flown on a commercial flight in my living memory, and not since years before 9/11.

How many people are like me in this regard, or am I alone ? Who hasn't flown commercial in their living memory?

2012 on a flight from kygrystan to germany, then germany to bangor maine then maine to texas, ofcourse this was returning from afghanistan, did not get the stop in romania on the way back like we did going there. Funny the army uses commercial jets up to a certain destination, then switches to combat cargo jets.

So, I am flying on Southwest tomorrow, connecting from PHX to LAX to Costa Rica, and I actually managed to check in exactly 24 hours early and get an A group assignment. I don't fly SW a lot, not a fan, plus...I have to pay to fly them LOL. But, it will be good to be able to get a good window seat as we fly down the spine of Mexico.

I'll bet you flew on the legendary...but awful World Airways on their ramshackle MD11's. They did a lot of military charters, my nephew flew them from Kyrgyzstan to Germany (with an engine going out).

Anyway, they are no longer flying, which is sad, given their history, they flew the last pax flight out of Saigon during the fall, got all shot up too, the CEO was the captain for that trip, he was a good man.

I used to do it all the time, now, I don't bother. I see no reason to fly, now that work doesn't require it. I probably haven't been on a plane in a decade and don't miss it at all.

All the rules and regulations and crowds have made flying virtually intolerable to me. I used to fly a lot when younger, now I rarely do. I have made one round-trip flight since 9/11, and that was in 2007. I cannot say I will never fly again, but if driving is an even remotely reasonable alternative, I will drive.

I did not fly the year following 9/11 for obvious reasons now I fly a couple times a year without hesitation.

Couple times a month for flight crew rotations and I hate absolutely every last second spent in either an airline terminal or in their planes.

Just about two weeks ago. All total it was about 16 hours flying time broken up by 4 different plane changes.
