Halloween decor

I don't really think so, at least it isn't anywhere like the heyday back in the 70s and 80s. We've become a much more litigious society since then, today you can't really do anything spectacular for Halloween or someone might sue you or scream at you because you offend them.

I set up a scary porch with only strobe lighting, and I get plenty of **** for doing that.

Light on the scary with very good lighting, that's the rule now.

I refuse to conform.

Again.

Same here, but back in the 70s and 80s, I set up elaborate haunted houses in the yard designed the scare the crap out of people. Today, I'd have to carry significant insurance just to run such a thing, plus I'd be getting a ton of complaints because it wasn't politically correct and just might offend people. Society has gone completely to hell.

Oh man, mid 70's Rockford Il had a really kick ass haunted house. Is was a really big deal, people performed for free year after year, lots of them, and it was scary all right, especially if you went with the right buzz. I was clean as a whistle, did not even drink, but I sure knew.

I will concede that the way in which you have explained it here is correct. I guess on second thought it really is Halloween "light"

we used to scare the crap out of each other, and love it, and seek it, but now that's a no-no so yeah

I've never done much decorating for halloween but just got some stuff to put up today. This is juuuuust to the right of my front door.

Never do any decor, I just buy a bunch of candy lock my doors and turn all the lights off in my house, and giggle when the kids knock and yell trick or treat, while im stuffing my fact with candy.

My 1st house I decorated but they did away with trick or treat and had a party for the kids at the Firehouse. My 2nd house was in the boonies and no kids came in 13 years, stopped decorating. My 3rd house and we haven't had any kids in 14 years, bah humbug!

That might be it, this subdivision was built 98-01, I got here 04, those were almost all families with kids, the kids almost all left, the parents many did not. I know that till at least 08 we were a place to go to trick/treat, parents bussed their kids in. We now have both fewer houses and few seekers, by a lot on both counts.

We bought a new house in an area where there are many more families moving in and some having been established for about 5-10 years now. (Our half of the area started building up again last year and they haven't stopped.). It is full of children, and of course we have ours. We decorate the doors and windows mainly. Some on the inside.

Now that I have downsized to a condo there really isn’t a place for decor but I’m known as the full size candy house, I go all in with full size candy bars and packs of gum. I do have windows flanking my front door and place these twisted haunted dolls in them, they are so very creepy. They have a sensor that detects movement and they start talking. In my area It’s the reverse of not getting trick or treaters, I will get 80+.

My mom used to get 300+ every year but now, I think she gets 50-60. I have no idea how many I'll get so I got enough candy for 200 and will see how it goes.

They must bus the little buggers into my condo complex, It’s a sprawling property and safe to let the kids run on their own. I think Its great, the more the merrier. I get so many kids I just sit outside with the bowl of treats. fun stuff.

I don't care where they come from, I won't even be home for most of it. I know that, at least years back, they literally did bus kids in, I just have no clue how things are around here since this will be our first Halloween here.

I won't put anything out until Saturday but I'm pretty low key. I frame out an arbor in front of my entryway and light it up then on Halloween night I put out a pumpkin with fiber optic eyes and a blow up ghost. It's not much but the kids like it.

The first year I was in the house we got a bunch of kids but in recent years it's been rather slow with maybe 20-30 kids. Since 2008 there have been a lot of renters in the neighborhood so it changes every year.
