Hello,

If anyone has gone to a Chinatown in any large city like New York, you will find shops that sell little figurines of gods and animals.
Would anyone know what those figurines are made of? I am looking at one and it looks like it could be made of soapstone or something.

They're made from the bones of nosy round eyes.

Many are indeed made from soapstone. Some are plastic. The more upscale ones would be jade or jadeite You probably are looking at one of the soapstone ones.
 
If they feel heavy and are somewhat translucent they could be jade.

There is à wide variety in the quality of jade however.

For those that do not feel heavy expect à plastic or glass
