Anyone have a home insurance company that they are really happy with? I'm shopping right now. Been reading reviews and whatnot but want to pick all your guys' brains and experience. I'm currently taking a strong look at Amica.

I have Allstate. Good service but not cheap. My finished basement was flooded due to a faulty pipe. Took care of it with no arguing. Drywall, carpet, etc.

Well hey, at least you're in good hands.

I have had Farm Bureau Home Insurance for over 30 years. They've replaced two roofs, one from a tornado, and one from a major hail storm. They've replaced lots of flooring, drywall, and furniture when my washing machine decided not to turn off the water valve and kept trying to fill up - for about 9 hours. They even paid to replace a John Deere Gator that was stolen from my yard, and few other less expensive events. I've never had one bad conversation with them or had to argue about anything with them. A lot of it has to do with the agent though. My agent is great, has been there as long as I've been their customer, and is on the phone with me or is standing beside me when I've ever had to talk to an adjuster for a claim.

They have the state name in their name, NC Farm Bureau Insurance, SC Farm Bureau Insurance, Tennessee Farm Bureau Insurance, etc.

I have Allstate. They were cost competitive. I never filed a claim, though. They were hell to get their coverage, though. They sent an inspector out to inspect my roof...which was a top of the line 50 year architectural roof. A few shingles were a tad messed up from a lightweight branch...they refused to insure me until I got those shingles replaced. It was nitpicky, really. It was hell trying to get the agent on the phone. To this day, I've never spoken to her. She doesn't exist, as far as I know.

Your state's insurance commissioner or dept of ins. probably has a site that rates the ins. co. for a number of factors, incl. customer satisfaction, cost, quality of coverage, etc. Texas does.

If you're old enough, Hartford thru AARP has really good rates. How they do that is they sell only to age 55 and over AND they don't insure at all in hurricane areas and such. Super great rates.

I had Allstate for home, auto and my rental properties for years and they were good but expensive. The agent I had was excellent. But I wanted to save some money so I switched to Safeco and so far so good...but I haven't had to make a claim yet so I can't really say how good they are.

They jack with your rates much after your claims?

I recently switched over to Amica from Liberty Mutual and I'm very happy. Great price and I didn't feel like they were trying up sell me on my coverage.

If all you need is a DD-214 then I can get in.

As long as your discharge was of an "honorable" type you should qualify. And if you do that is definitely the company I recommend going with.
