TV shows that did something so over the top you never watched them again?

Oh my god....there are black people in our movies!!!!!!!!

There is nothing wrong with black people in movies as long as they stick to rolls like gang bangers or servants. I guess if it is a "black movie" they can be the good guy.

;)

I'd say all the 70's and 80's tv shows that at one point or another got so ****ing lazy that they did a whole "memory" show where they sit around remembering which just allowed them to not have to actually write a show and just pull clips from previous shows. First recollection of this was Little House on the Prairie. If I recall correctly it happened quite a lot though through that era.

They do clip shows today. It's a cost cutting measure and tends to happen once a season for a lot of shows.

back in the day when i had three channels it wasn't a deal breaker. It's much more of a deal-breaker now-a-days.

Happy Days is literally where the phrase "jumped the shark" comes from.

The last 2-3 seasons of Happy Days was complete and utter crap.

For Laverne & Shirley it was when they moved to California, though it was kind of dying by then anyway.

I had a hard time liking a lot of the live audience shows of the 70's and 80's. It's like they tried hard to do broadway on tv and it just turned into a lot of screaming. Laverne & Shirley was like that. We can hear you gals... you have microphones on. No need to scream at the audience. That and the bad sound dampening they had for those kinds of shows. They are already screaming but they sounded really tinny and whiny because of it.

Hello friends,
This thread is to ask for examples if there ever was a TVshow you were watching where at some point they drastically crossed the line withyour personal value system so bad that you never watched them again.

This is NOT a discussion of your personal values, but justabout something you saw on a show that really crossed the line with them so badyou never watched that show again. Somuch that you said, “ Oh, hell no!”, and never watched that show again.

I have three examples…

1. The Man Show – there was one bit where AdamCorolla was taking his mother out, but it was completely romantic between themboth and it finished with them both going to a motel room and closing the doorbehind them. Consentual sex being implied
Oh, hell NO!...click

2. Barney Miller – Once a guy came in and reportedbeing robbed of his paycheck and the detectives said it was nothing to getupset about or fight the thief about.Well, I do not know about the rest of the population, but my paychecksare the source of my kids food, clothing, and keeping the bills paid and a roofover all our heads. No damned thief isgoing to rob my family of their money, and their source of security. It IS something to fight over.
Oh, hell NO!...click

3. The Jeffersons – On one episode George Jeffersonhad a manager of one of his many dry cleaning shops quit, and he was lookingfor a replacement from within his employees.A white lady who had been there for many years was suggested, but Georgesaid no.He said his was a black ownedbusiness and only black people would be promoted to management positions evenif they were not as qualified as anyone of another race.
Oh, hell NO!...click

Sometimes these TV shows cross the line inmaking a point that the writers and producers want to shove down our throats, regardless of legal, moral, or ethical standards. It is their TV show and they can say whatthey want to, but I can also exercise my right to change the channel and neverwatch they show again.

So, friends, have you even seen somethingon TV that was so “over the top” against your beliefs that you vowed to neverwatch that show again?

Remember, this is not about your values, but about some shows you may have seen that completely pissed you off enough soyou never watched them again.

I would love to hear about them.

PS...I wrote this on WORD as I was afraid it might time out before I was done and I would loose it all, so I apologize for some of the spaces between words being omitted in the pasting.

You ever watch "All in the Family"? Best sitcom ever for the very reason you describe. Pissed off plenty of people. I'm Jewish and my wife is Black and we watch the reruns regularly. Pretty much the opposite of your premise but thought I would share none the less.

Anything with Jane Fonda or Woody Allen will not be tuned in ever. I am not a fan of two very prolific arenas in film these days.

1) reality shows - can't stand them especially when there is soap opera drama (grew up hating soap opera and game shows).

2) all the reboots these days that completely change the construct of a cast to promulgate the "racial/sexual-identity reset" message (Annie not only recast the story to make the stars black but changed the plot to vilify whites) getting sick and tired of this. Want a black movie, make a black movie! Stop trying to rewrite history by writing out white people and making the ones in the re-writes "evil slave masters".

Truth is it is happening and it is starting to get ludicrous. The new Star Wars is another example. Did we have to have a black rebel storm trooper fighting the evil white storm trooper (cop) that was carrying a police baton looking weapon? And of course the female storm trooper captain in silver (bling)? They also cast a metrosexual temper tantrum throwing wussy as Han and Lieah's son, the new Vadar character! This guy is such a douche!

Rant off!

You should see blackish

Now THAT show is absolutely hilarious.

I won't watch any Woody Allen has a hand in.

Lots of shows "jump the shark". That's why I stop watching them.

He may be a slime ball but Sleeper, Love & Death and Annie Hall are top notch entertainment. At least in my humble opinion.

I call them Clipisodes. Star Trek TNG tried that with the episode Shades of Gray. It's highly regarded as the worst episode in the entire series. Even the writer of the episode felt ashamed.

One of the most classic stupid lines ever spoke on TV that episode when Richie told the Fonz...

"Well when you get your legs bitten off don't come running to me!"

i do have to admire that this one scene defined all of the other "took it too far" tv moments that followed, though.

I was a big fan of Deadwood early on... but I quit watching after Season 2 and never saw season 3.

Reason? It was just too damn dark... and then they killed the boy off.

I mean, just unremittingly dark. Most of the characters were pretty slimy and the few that weren't mostly died.

The boy though, the main characters' nephew he was raising as his own, a single spot of joy and something like innocence... and they killed him off, rather nastily at that.

It was all just a bit too much, a bit too unrelentingly dark, so I gave it up.

Gotham: A pre-Pubescent tells his legal Guardian Alfred that he's fired. So ridiculous I just couldn't watch anymore.

So You Think You Can Dance: Studio vs Street. Nope. There's no reason to pit these two types of dances against each other so arbitrarily. It was the final season and I didn't watch.

Iron Chef America: Farmer's Market! We take a bunch of fresh ingredients and and you make a meal out of them. It was just so creatively lazy. So many interesting and unique ingredients in this country and they came up with that crap.

There's more, but I can't think of them at the moment.

It's use has grown far far FAAARRRR beyond just TV. That's way cool.

I and a lot of people gave up on Gotham after the first season because a) it isn't Batman and b) all of the characters suck. That's also why Krypton is going to fail, nobody gives a damn about Superman's grandfather.

I watched all of season 1 and part of season 2 but I guess I heard the term "********er" just one time too many, and gave up on it.

Those sure were some well fed pigs though, weren't they?
