The head of the largest insurer in the Mid-Atlantic region warned Thursday that the Affordable Care Act marketplaces were in the early stages of a death spiral, a statement that came as the company announced its request for massive, double-digit premium increases for next year.Projecting that by year's end the company will have lost a total of $600 million since it started selling plans in the marketplaces four years ago, CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield is requesting a greater than 50 percent rate increase in Maryland, a 35 percent increase in northern Virginia and a 29 percent increase in D.C.
“What we’re seeing is greater sickness levels. The pool of beneficiaries is becoming sicker, in part because healthier people are not coming in at the same level we hoped,” said Chet Burrell, chief executive of CareFirst, which insures about 215,000 people through the marketplaces set up by the Affordable Care Act in all three states.

Yep, better to keep this wonderful O-care instead of moving away from it...

:lamo Don't worry, that beautiful Wall will help.

Single payer is coming.

Who do you think pays when illegals use our emergency rooms?

Are they in front or behind the Trailer Park Trash, Meth Heads and Gang Bangers?

There really isn't an alternative.

To failure, there are plenty, but you maybe right, people are as a whole dumber and dumber, being wards of the state seems like a bright idea...

Heaven forbid we do something that ****ing stupid.

The Canadian in the room can confirm, single payer is not "****ing stupid". It's quite awesome, actually. It's nice to not have to choose between life saving operations and bankruptcy. :2dance:

Whereby a single payer worth about $100 premium a month and a robust guarantee that the government will not pay any more under any circumstances etc....

....but liberals would cave in and use promises of more to buy votes.

What the **** ever. Hey Canadian in the room, what's the wait time for an MRI? Here's a hint it's in months. Guess what my last MRI wait time was? 2 hours.

Have a nice single payer life. Waiting for care maybe

Means that quality of care goes down, incentive goes down, innovation goes down, but hey, you'll get "free" care.. when the resources are available, in 6-9 weeks. Maybe.

LOL..sorry, you're telling me about my health care system? My mother had a medical emergency, non-life threatening, and had her MRI within 24 hours of the incident. But hey, you're the expert, right? Thanks for the "hint" LOL... Donut...

No, not at all. The coverage would be asprin against cancer pain. But anyone could take add on insurance with higher coverage like they now do increasingly in many European countries.

And I call bull****.

Patients also experience significant waiting times for various diagnostic technologies across the provinces. This year, Canadians could expect to wait 3.7 weeks for a computed tomography (CT) scan, 11.1 weeks for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan, and 4.0 weeks for an ultrasound.

Think about what's at play here, w/regard to healthcare.

1. The state at federal and local levels have already heavily interfered with the markets, with things like establishing monopolies or the abuse of patents by the pharmaceutical companies, to such a degree that it has pushed costs up a significant degree.

2. Medicine and technology is such that everyone is specializing and R&D is very advanced, which also makes it expensive. It's not like we are having veterinarians performing surgeries anymore.

3. There isn't much of a choice of getting medical treatment. You are going to do w/e you can to get it, even if that's bankruptcy.

So you can have plenty of people that are doing everything right. They have a good job, they are making good money, they make healthy choices, ect. Then one thing can flip that all on it's head. A car accident that removes the primary money winner out of work. A child is born with a condition that needs constant treatment.

I do think that everyone should be paying into it as a flat % of their income and have no refunds from that tax. That way everyone is equally paying into it.

You mean poor people could have worthless but paid for and controlled by government care while rich people could use money to fund better care? That sounds like good care? To anyone?

You mean... life isn't fair? Yes, yes, higher taxes and government plans, that's the ticket!

You're the one worried, not me. ;)

I'm not blathering about a wall.

And for the record. I do work for a local hospital and actually do a count on the number of illegals who use the ER. I'd say about 60 to 75 percent of those entering

Single payer is coming.

Somehow I don't see government taking over completely something they screwed up so badly as being any kind of fix.

lmao...good for you. And yet, it happened all the same. Oh, and guess what her bill was: $0.00. :) Keep drinking that koolaid, there, Renae, seems like it's almost done it's job. haha
The only way you get an MRI in Canada same day is to use some of the private for cost clinics up there. Period. I'm not saying that, the watchdogs of the system are. So you can tell this tale of magic same day service, nothing and I mean NOTHING can back it up.
