ObamaCare may force employers to pull the plug on millions of health plans, CBO report finds | Fox News
In the latest report to undercut President Obama's "If you like your health care plan, you can keep it" promise, the Congressional Budget Office projects millions of workers will leave employer-sponsored health plans over the next decade because of ObamaCare.

Some will opt to go on Medicaid, but others will be kicked off their company plans by employers who decide not to offer coverage anymore, according to a new CBO report titled, "Federal Subsidies for Health Insurance Coverage for People Under Age 65: 2016 to 2026."

"As a result of the ACA, between 4 million and 9 million fewer people are projected to have employment-based coverage each year from 2017 through 2026 than would have had such coverage if the ACA had never been enacted,” the report, released Thursday, said.
Overwhelmingly good news..................NOT. So Obamacare is basically taking over by driving out other insurers. That was not the original intent sold to the public..............keep your doctor.......keep your insurance......blah blah blah.

Re: ObamaCare may force employers to pull the plug on millions of health plans, CBO r

No, this was the original intent...driving the the insurance rates out-of-sight so the good ol' FedGov could come to the rescue.

The (so called) Cadillac plan tax included in PPACA does exactly that. Since insurance premiums are rising much faster than wages, it is only a matter of time before most (if not all) employers will be forced to either reduce the employee benefit insurance coverage offered (first by raising deductibles?) or pay that Cadillac plan tax.

And why the cadillac tax was postponed until 2020.
The Country really got effed over.

The Country really got effed over.

It was "postponed" (which really means cancelled) because the republicants detest added federal taxation of employers and the demorats wanted to appease the labor unions. The affect was simply to make PPACA even more costly - keep all of the federal subsidy spending but reduce the offsetting federal revenue.

No, Obamacare isn't taking over by driving out other insurers. These reports have been saying the same thing for years, so this is just a recycled story that's been told already. And the insurers aren't being 'driven out.' They're doing fine - look at their stock prices. Bottom line is the same report says 19 million additional will be on the same insurers' plans through the marketplace, an additional 17 million on Medicaid, and 23 million fewer uninsured. https://www.cbo.gov/sites/default/f...016/reports/51385-HealthInsuranceBaseline.pdf

Insurance rates being driven out of sight had already happened pre-ACA and has slowed post-ACA, but otherwise good point.

CBO Misses Its Obamacare Projection by 24 Million People | The Weekly Standard

Three years ago, on the eve of Obamacare’s implementation, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected that President Obama's centerpiece legislation would result in an average of 201 million people having private health insurance in any given month of 2016. Now that 2016 is here, the CBO says that just 177 million people, on average, will have private health insurance in any given month of this year—a shortfall of 24 million people.

I know the insurance companies agreed to and helped facilitate the ACA but, I wonder what's in it for them going forward.

Are they hoping for one giant payday if we go to single-payer?

Weekly Standard can't read a table or they're lying. I pick the latter. Because anyone who spends 1 minute on the tables will note that the "other" category in 2013 includes Medicare (9 million in 2016) and other plans such as tribal, student, and foreign plans (5 million in 2016). So you need to add about 15 million to the 177 million for apples to apples, which totals 192 million. I'd spend more time reconciling the two tables, but there is no point.

It's amazing how when you read something from a right wing site the working assumption has to be they're stupid or lying.

Re: ObamaCare may force employers to pull the plug on millions of health plans, CBO r

Due to Obamacare? Please prove that.

I'll prove it right after you "prove" the assertions in your OP! ;)

But if the assertion is ACA is somehow hurting UHC, the stock price sort of tells another story altogether. When Obama was sworn in the stock was around $20. All time high for UHC was about $60. They're double that so ACA appears to not have hurt them anyway...

But to be honest I'm not sure what point you were trying to make posting a bare link with no comment.

I just cant believe 6 years after the passage of Obamacare and in the third year of coverage, conservatives are still failing for these type of "articles".

the title of the thread is "ObamaCare may force employers to pull the plug on millions of health plans, CBO report finds"

the first sentence in the thread is "ObamaCare may force employers to pull the plug on millions of health plans, CBO report finds"

the title of the link is "ObamaCare may force employers to pull the plug on millions of health plans, CBO report finds"

Okay, now show me "forced".

Re: ObamaCare may force employers to pull the plug on millions of health plans, CBO r

So Obamacare is basically taking over by driving out other insurers.

This statement doesn't even make sense. This is a category error.

Or you can't read a table. It's amazing how liberal/progressives are so quick to dismiss anything that doesn't fit their agenda. It's even more telling that the fall back is always to call them stupid or liars.

Colossally lame.

Medicare isnt health insurance. And we were told the ACA was going to move people off medicare and on to health insurance.

As to the topic, I dont have an issue with moving people off this idea of employer provided healthcare. I just dont like the alternative either, which is govt provided healthcare.

You should take a minute to Wikipedia what Medicare is. Because whatever you think it is, you're way off.

Weekly Standard was wrong. I explained how. If you think they read and interpreted the tables correctly, please tell me what part I missed. Bottom line is they didn't even do a legitimate attempt to reconcile the two tables and so made at least a 15 million person error that took me a minute or two of reading the footnotes to the tables to find.

No offense, but if I have to choose, I'll take the research conducted by the Weekly Standard over the interpretation of an anonymous poster. We already know the propaganda put out to sell this wreck of a plan has been so far off base that criminal charges should be pending.

I'm missing something. The ACA was never intended to move people off Medicare. Maybe you're confusing Medicaid with Medicare.... And Medicare is obviously health insurance as we use that term in the U.S. in 2016.

As to the topic, I dont have an issue with moving people off this idea of employer provided healthcare. I just dont like the alternative either, which is govt provided healthcare.

OK, that's fine but what's the alternative if you don't like the employer model or the ACA or something close to it? And it's hard to know your problem anyway. "Government" doesn't provide healthcare except to VA folks. My mother in law is covered by Medicare and she sees a private sector doctor at 2:15 today and had surgery in private sector hospital, with private sector surgeons, etc. last year.

You should take a minute to wikipedia and then post your rebuttal here. Thats how a debate forum works.

Yes, I meant medicaid, but also medicare for those under 65. And Im talking about people under 65, which medicare was not intended to cover. Part of the sell of the ACA was to put people on private insurance so they didnt need medicaid, medicare, etc.

None of this is to say that fewer people have "coverage" under Obamacare—it's just not private coverage. In 2013, the CBO projected that 34 million people would be on Medicaid or CHIP (the Children's Health Insurance Program) in 2016. The CBO now says that 68 million people will be on Medicaid or CHIP in 2016—double its earlier estimate. It turns out that Obamacare is pretty much a giant Medicaid expansion.

As to alternatives, pay cash for care, same as any other product. Pay cash for private insurance if youre worried about cost. If you cant afford it, then seek out a solution that doesnt force others to take care of you. Healthcare is neither the power or the duty of the federal govt, and thus the general taxpayers to fund.
