Since the earlier post was about a 'clergyman' in CA, I doubt there is any common element in the air or water between these two sorry guys.

I can't recall the titles offhand but these stories concern people getting so close to the problem that their only out is to off themselves. I'll have to dust off my copies of Poe & Lovecraft to check on that.

Close enough on first pass: Poe:

The Imp of the Perverse
Procrastination and confession

A great little 5 page story about human nature. The narrator talks about how we can stand on the edge of a cliff, knowing it will be suicide to jump off, yet we wonder what it would be like.

That is ironic.

Sad

But definitely ironic.

Executive director, sounds like an administrator to me, not a clinician. Do notice that there is no MD or PhD attached to his name. Administrative directors deal with budgets, hiring, personnel issues, etc. They aren't mental health experts.

For goodness's sake, this is so depressing. Condolences to this man's friends and family. :(

Often the best counselors are the ones with first hand experience of what their clients are going through.

Suicide in the Bible

Suicide in the Bible

Is suicide a sin? Many people assume the Bible condemns taking one’s own life. However, even a careful reader will search in vain for any explicit prohibition of self-killing in the Bible.

Well, like slavery, it should be a sin. But I am no longer religious, nor was I ever a Christian.

But if believing that suicide is a sin is what stops someone from committing suicide, good on Christianity.

suicide is awful. take care of your mental health as best you can, and never feel ashamed about seeking help.
