Rats Have Ruled New York for 355 Years. Can a Mystery Bucket Stop Them? - The New York Times

New York has attempted to eradicate its teeming rat population for 355 years and counting. On Thursday, the latest tactic in the Sisyphean effort was unveiled, with great fanfare, by Eric Adams, the Brooklyn borough president.

It was, in effect, a bucket that would lure the rodents and send them plunging to their deaths in a mysterious vinegary concoction. The toxic potion, according to its maker, Rat Trap Inc., prevents them from rotting too quickly and emitting a stink.

Reporters were shown the traps containing blobs of decaying rats that emitted a ghastly stink.

Where's the Pied Piper when you might really need his expertise?

I'm just waiting for rats to evolve and create their own subterranean kingdom.

If it works, great.

It looks disgusting though.

Didn't think anyone would know about the Skaven.

:)

Never started a Skaven army but wanted to. Collect Brettonians, Dwarfs, Chaos, Orks and Tomb Kings in WFB

And Dark Elfs

Trap'em, skin'em and bbq until tender.

Served with the proper sauce. Consult any gourmet French cookbook. Those folks will eat damned near everything if it's served with the right sauce.

They eat snails, so yeah.
I watch survivalist shows sometimes (Alone etc). They have eaten squashed mice, rats, one even roasted leeches because he was so hungry. (the guy actually won)

Great illustration.... who did it ?

Look up Warhammer Fantasy Battles by Games Workshop. For similar artwork. They have about 30 years of it produced. The one above would be Skaven Plague Monks probably from one of the older Army Books

Appreciate it - thanks. :2wave:

Should put some of those buckets in Wall Street where the most damaging of rats live

years ago, one of the science channels had a segment about two families in India-they specialized in "bandicoot control" which is what they call the big rats. One guy was an urban specialist-he used a bare bones slingshot rig (bands tied to his fingers) while his kid threw 2 foot sticks side arm to bullseye running rats. But the best was the country folk. Large family would gather where the "bandicoots" were plaguing a farm. The men would gather straw and start stuffing it down rat holes, while the women prepared fires. The straw would burn and stun the rats, and these men would put their hands down the holes, grabbing choking rats and quickly snapping their necks (the leader noted he had some antivenin because sometimes cobras were also hunting rats in the holes). the women would skin out the rats and tie their tails to long branches set above the fires to smoke the rat meat. At the end of the show, they had 100s of rats smoking away.

On you tube there is a guy who practices what he calls the art of Minkenry. He uses minks, which are weasel looking animals and dogs, to hunt rats and other vermin. He then sells the dead caucuses to snake and reptile owners for fresh feed. The mink is like a ferret and can get into any place a rat can go. They are tough and fearless, can go into water, and can be trained to not only kill rats on command, but they will even drag them out of their hiding places and place the dead in a collection bin.

Can't do that in NYC. Green and smoke don't mix well.

About India, don't some of them worship rats? I remember an episode of Amazing Race. They had to go barefooted into a rat den.

the show specifically noted that these rat slayers were not Hindu. I don't recall what they were.

New Yorks rats would eat his minks for a snack. I have personally seen some that would give me pause to send a large dog after them. Apparently the cats in New York have better things to do. I don't don't blame them one bit after seeing some monster rats out that way. Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever seen a skinny rat in New York, they all looked very well fed.
