I'm Impressed by a number of candidates like Beto, Gillum, Murkowski and Stacey Abrams in the midterms. But I just can't force myself to vote for Bob Menendez. Even NJ.com says that the race is the most depressing in the country. We have no one exciting and both are scandal plagued. You all know about Menendez's various scandals. But Hugin has lots too. He basically profited off of cancer patients. There is no lesser of two evils here. I'm not a Democrat and not so anti-Trump that I would vote for another politician plagued with scandals just to troll Trump. I want my vote to mean something a little more than that. Menendez seems no better than Trump. Likewise Hugin.

if you are pleased with the current state of American politics, then just dont vote. That will give you some extra time to change your ID from NeverTrumpGOP.

I'm in a bind b/c I do want to vote, but I'm a registered republican and I don't like Hugin. To vote Democrat I would have to vote for Menendez and it's against my values to do so.

It's NJ, do y'all get politicians that aren't scandal plagued? I lived in NJ for a few years and found it to be just an incompetent version of Chicago.

I think Christie only got in a scandal when he was in office. I'm not aware of anything he did before he became governor.

If you don't like Trump, and you don't like either of these candidates, then my bet is still on going for whichever one is least likely to vote with Trump. If you like the Republican a bit more than the Democrat, or at least hate 'em less, then that's where things start to get really indecisive.

I'm holding my nose and voting for someone that I don't particularly like. I got my protest votes in during the last election, when I thought it was most pertinent to send Democratic leadership a message. This election, I feel like it's more important to keep the president in check, and would vote for a Manchin-style Democrat if I had to. I would not do so under a Democratic president, or a reasonable Republican president.

Did you force yourself to go to work this morning? Did you really want to? It's Monday morning, and just like every Monday morning millions and millions of people woke up and chose the lesser of two evils. They chose to get up and go to work rather than stay in bed and get fired from their jobs.

As I said before, just delete the" Nevertrump"

What not just say it directly: You will always vote straight Democratic no matter who is on the ballot. That is what your message really says, though you try to disguise it otherwise.

Everybody is saying that Hugin has a chance to beat Menendez but that's unlikely. He's never been ahead of Menendez in the polls. NJ usually always voted Democrat. I'm surprised it's so close.

Voting the incumbent out is the best 'lesser of two evils' choice, IMHO. The longer a congress critter has been in office then the more power they get to screw things up.

Yeah but considering how Hugin messed with drug prices in shady ways. That's not exactly inspiring a portrayal that he won't do the same in Congress.

Just vote Libertarian.

Here's my two cents, NeverTrumpGOP. If you view your vote as a form of moral imprimatur, which judging by your handle, you do, I will say this: You do not owe anyone your vote. I believe that in a representative democracy like ours, candidates have to actually earn a person's vote. If you feel like you need to vote for the lesser of two evils for the sake of saving the country, because this election is all that stands between us and Armageddon, fine. But if you believe that the sun will still rise on the United States of America following this election, and you simply believe no one worthy has earned your vote, then I see nothing wrong with withholding it.

I've thought about all of that. Hugin hasn't earned my vote. I do not think Menendez will do anything different for the country that he has already done. He's not changing. I don't like his agenda or his sleazyness. Both hold values I do not believe in.

I think you're reading in-between the lines a bit too much there, Joko.

I voted for mostly Green party candidates last time around. In fact, I've written several posts on this site defending my position in regards to rejecting the lesser evil. If we had a Democratic president, or perhaps a different Republican, I would consider doing that again.

In this election I'm very much 'Blue, no matter who'. You seem to have focused on that bit, and have ignored the bit where I have voted otherwise, and intend on doing so in the future.

Being as I'm to the left of the Democratic party, I don't see myself ever voting for a Republican unless we have some serious political shifts that produce more liberal Republicans, or if a Republican came out for campaign finance reform (and not just against 'dark' money) and rejected donations from all corporate donors. If a Republican, whom I could actually vote for, did that, yet we disagreed on every single other issue, they would still obtain my support.

Is that a little more clear?

To vote Democrat I would have to vote for Menendez and it's against my values to do so.

They're all corrupt to different degree. If you like what the GOP was planning to do with healthcare, and threatens to do with Social Security and Medicare, then vote accordingly.

But I don't want to see you crying about such things after November 6.

Sometimes the less bad choice is a necessary but not fun choice. Just think about what's going on in Washington, what you've come to realize about Donald, and vote accordingly.

Hugin would be a lackey for tRump, no question.

^^^This.

At the state level, I'm actually forced to vote against a Repub I kind of like. That party has too much power here, and I can't stand the GOP at the national level. The Dems are terrible, but the GOP is trying to take apart the system, stuff it in their pockets and walk away. I have to fight that as a citizen.

Interesting seeing Democrats on the forum attacking NeverTrumpGOP for not being willing to blindly vote straight Democratic Party ticket regardless of the candidates.

Since when is a question an attack? If you are capable of understanding that Trump is dangerous then you should know that the only way to keep him in check is to give Democrats control of Congress. According to the OP the GOP candidate is similarly plagued with the scandal so he doesn't like either candidate.

I'm simply trying to highly the silliness of people who bitch and moan about the lesser of two evils when it comes to voting, meanwhile, every single solitary day that makes countless choices that are also the lesser of two evils. They're just so used to making those choices that they don't really think about them anymore. Literally, every decision you make in your life requires you to weigh the pros and the cons. If there are no pros then you chose the one with the fewest cons. This isn't a new or rare concept. Why is it so hard to do when you're voting when you do it virtually every minute of every day.

I don't generally vote in the midterms here in NJ. The result is almost always is Democrat. Except at various county levels I've lived in. So I'm most likely going to abstain from voting knowing that Mendenez will likely win anyway. :(
