HOOPERS ISLAND, Md. — This community voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump. But now his immigration restrictions are killing its livelihood — legendary crabs that are a mainstay of the local economy and a regional delicacy.

For decades, Hoopers Island, known for its crabbing industry, has relied on a federal seasonal work program — known as H-2B visas — to keep its businesses humming. This has allowed employers to hire foreigners, mostly Mexican women, to come temporarily to pick crab meat.

I had heard the other day that Maryland's important crab industry has been severely impacted by Trump's new immigration restrictions on seasonal workers.

What? Not enough visas left over after Mar-a-Lago took what they wanted?

Well, it will be interesting to see how many Mar-a-Lago ends up with after this change.

I've heard that Trump likes to hire illegals to add an exotic flare to his places. Hypocrite.

From the link:

But given the chance, many Hoopers Island residents say they'd vote for Trump again. They believe that if he only knew about their plight, he would change his policy.

*face palm*

Idiots.

Another group of Trump voters gets screwed.

Whatta surprise.

Crab crisis: Maryland seafood industry loses 40 percent of work force in visa lottery

Maryland's seafood industry is in crisis: Nearly half of the Eastern Shore’s crab houses have no workers to pick the meat sold in restaurants and supermarkets.

They failed to get visas for their mostly Mexican workforce, including many women who have been coming north to Maryland for crab season for as long as two decades. The Trump administration for the first time awarded them this year in a lottery, instead of on a first-come, first-served basis.

“This is going to cause the price of crab meat to go out of sight,” said Harry Phillips, owner of Russell Hall Seafood on Hoopers Island. “There’s not going to be hardly any Maryland crab meat.

“It looks like it’s a matter of time before they’re going to shut all of us down.”

sounds like they should hire americans.

With low unemployment you can't get 'Mericans to do that kind of grueling work for the kind of wages they have to pay.

Maybe ship some of the California or Seattle homeless to the area. There ya go....lotsa people needing money.

I would if I lived there. I was just in America last year with no work at all. Minimum wage if 7.xx dollars an hour and that would have done well in my situation. I'm sure there are some high school kids there who need work more than me.
