Many from the Tri-state area know the tired story of Holmdel NJ's Bell Labs building. Once a pioneer in technology now, has for decades been an ugly abandoned building sucking up resources and land space. This was where I grew up and where I got my first taste of politics. I (was too young) missed the tech boom in the 90s where Bell Labs was at it's peak. Growing up in my home town The old Bell Labs Building was the talk of many local politicians' campaigns who didn't quite know what to do with it. Many presidential candidates and presidents have probably rode past there wondering why we couldn't figure out what to do with this sprawling piece of land.

I am happy to report that it is now a central townhall/corporate campus. Not unlike what you might find at Google, Facebook, Apple. In a push towards the startup culture, Bell Works will feel like a small town itself. Complete with Stores, Homes, and Work all in one place. Giant Corporations like NVIDIA and JCP&L are already leasing the bulk of the spaces there.

You gotta admit for a once abandoned building, it looks amazing now!

That does look like a really nice building would love to see some interior shots when completed.

Right now I have not been able to find any actual shots of the building as I think it's still being developed. I'm going back there this Sunday for the holiday, so I might get the chance to go down and take some shots.

That's a prediction of what the building will look like, I believe its the final approved layout though.

Are those things at the top of the building supposed to be solar panels? If so that'd be a great idea. :)

Wish more companies would do this. Actually, I wish it'd be done pretty much everywhere.

A lot of the tech-centric companies have basically zero carbon footprint due to basically being gigafactories and completely self-sufficient. I'm not a huge supporter on most of the policy solutions to Global Warming, but these are the types of things that make the most sense to me.

I am extremely happy that the focus of this project was that it appeals to that type of culture. It will bring back the innovative minds that left my home town growing up. I love that type of corporate town lifestyle that you see in Silicon Valley and in other startup hubs. A lot of people don't quite understand it, but it really is a game changer. Bell Works also has a bunch of condos for sale right now I believe, or they are in the process of building them. My mom told me they were $800K which is about average for the area. So that means commute to work is basically a stroll down the street.

I mean I live ten mins from my job now and even I'm jealous of that. I would not hesitate to move back to my home town if given the opportunity to work in that building. At least I wouldn't have to move cross-country to experience that lifestyle.

Campuses like that are out of style, people what the urban experience now.

Maybe this does not work, maybe that's why it has been empty for so long.
