North Carolina is no longer classified as a democracy

Taking punitive actions to undermine the results of an election or when the democratic environment is not fair is not how a free and fair democracy operates.

So, you mean like, say, if a President had lost both houses in a Mid Term election, and decided that instead he would forge a path of unilateral governance through a Pen And A Phone...

....that would be, bad?

Democrats have gerrymandered before, therefore republicans should gerrymander now? Pretty awful logic there.

 well, it recognizes the tragedy of the condition. Calling for unilateral disarmament isn't likely to yield many results.

Hey, random question: when Wisconsin Democrats decided to undermine the results of an election by fleeing the state to deny a quorum, thereby denying democracy a chance to operate, how did you respond to that?

Um, the passive non-participation action in not passing a budget (Yer confused, it wasn't "undermining an election") is very different from the pro-active stripping of executive power.

Since when is anyone on the right concerned with a government being able to function?

Oh that's right...when the government is ramming through their agenda.

So.... No, you didn't. :) Thanks for implicitly admitting your own hypocrisy, while accusing others of projected standards :).

Honestly I think that award should go to Maryland

Everything about Maryland's districts is pretty much designed to minimize Republicans from winning House seats. I'm surprised it's not talked about more often. But then again it's done to favor Democrats...

I can't disagree with you. MD made my list of 7 DEM GM states. Slamming on DEMs only, CA is 39-14 in reps, MD is 7-1, MA is 9-0, OR is 4-1, IL is 11-7, CT is 5-0, and NY is 18-9. My cut-off for GM was a difference greater than 2 for reps. MD-1 is GOP .

I read this piece a few days ago. I get what he is saying BUT I think this is exactly what democracy looks like. 50%+1 wins. They make the rules and the minority be damned. People who want to abolish the electoral college should use NC as a case study and figure out why it would be a bad idea.

The whitehurt [sic] in North Carolina is precisely an example of why the electoral college needs to die a cold, hard death.

Make the republican president, house, and senate accountable then.
I for one wont hold my breath, cause then I'd suffocate and die.

Which is basically leftist, pseudo feminist bull****.

Um, no, women's rights do not qualify as "leftist, pseudo feminist bull****."

If you don't think women should be able to have control over their own bodies, perhaps you should visit Saudi Arabia.

Exactly. I can't understand why people continue to believe the states or the US is a democracy....

Because they've had that notion drummed into their soft heads all their lives by the public education system and our elected officials.

Read more @: North Carolina is no longer classified as a democracy

North Carolina is the GOP's dream. Undermine the powers of the democratically elected governor, gerrymander the state congressional districts to a point where most of them are not even competitive, and ignore the voice of the people. North Carolina is essentially on its way to becoming a one party state where democratic values are

We are not a democracy. It good to see the people are actually figuring out what type of government our forefathers gave us. They considered a democracy mob rule and that is essentially what happens under a democracy. A form of government that does not protect the rights of the minority or the individual is not a very good form of government. I will stick with our representative government that has a constitution to protect the rights of the individual from being voted away by the majority.

The only problem with our government is the corruption by the rich and powerful who have manged to own both parties, keep us divided, and have taken away our vote by limiting our choice to their 2 candidates.

Time to hold them accountable, expect the republicans: who control the house, the senate, the presidency, and maybe the supreme court, to outlaw gerrymandering day 1.
:lamo:lamo:lamo
Actually, the whole party before country thing is more sad than funny.

The fact remains that had the democrats won because of the electoral college it would be the republicans crying foul and the democrats would be supporting it. I would bet my life on that fact.

We do not need to change our government because the democrats lost an election. Enough crying already.

The fact remains the democrats lost the average hard working taxpayer all across this country because they are tired of supporting an over bloated government, 3rd generation welfare recipients, a livable wage to 40 million people who should not be in this country, and the inequality between the wages of the average taxpayer and the government worker.

I'm not even talking about the EC if you weren't aware.
I'm talking about gerrymandering-which you feel the need to support. You call opposition to it crying. I call supporting it corruption.

Well I hope NC is never a democracy, because that's not what the founders envisioned.

The Democratic People's Republic of Maryland?

Really? You dont consider our 50 state governments a form of representative democracy!? :doh

Tell that to Barack Hussein Obama as he tries to sabotage the USA's relationship with Israel prior to Trump taking office.

What does this have anything to do with democracy?

Really? You dont consider our 50 state governments a form of representative democracy!? :doh

No. A democracy is a government where the people vote on everything. We have a constitutional republic. The only thing we vote on is the representatives. Even the president is an electoral college. Our supreme court are appointed and approved by our representatives. We have a representative government or a republic.

A pretty good run-down of why the article in the OP is skull-crackingly dumb, even beyond the prima-facie of it.

About that bogus claim that North Carolina is no longer a democracy . . . - Statistical Modeling, Causal Inference, and Social Science

Actually, it came off more like a schizophrenic stream-of-consciousness that deserves to go no farther than the personal blog format. It didn't even really address the argument aside from claiming that other states are ranked worse.
