A 120-year-old photograph of a girl digging for gold in Yukon has sparked online theories that Greta Thunberg might be a time traveller.
The photograph, dated 1898, was sourced from the University of Washington library archives and features three children digging for gold at Dominion Creek, Yukon, during the Klondlike Gold Rush.
One of the children, a girl, sits in the foreground of the photo, looking directly at the camera. With braids, an angular face shape and a remarkably familiar stern expression, many say she looks eerily like the 16-year-old Swedish climate activist. The uncanny resemblance has gone viral on Twitter, sparking conspiracies around Thunberg’s identity.
"So, ‘Greta Thunberg’ is in a photo from 120 years ago, and it’s my new favourite conspiracy. Greta’s a time traveller from the future, and she’s here to save us,” tweeted one Twitter user.
"To those saying ‘How can she be in the past if she’s from the future?!?’ Obviously, as a time traveller, she can travel to ANY time period. She obviously tried to go back 120 years, didn’t work, and now she’s here. Obviously!
