It would seem that many christians in america do not favour the concept of free speech.

Nashville school bans 'Harry Potter' books in *checks notes* 2019

On Saturday, the Tennessean reported that the students of St. Edward Catholic School will no longer be allowed to check out books in the Harry Potter series from their school library on account of the "curses and spells" present within the J.K. Rowling texts.

The local publication states that Rev. Dan Reehil, a pastor at the school, explained the decision in an email to parents.

"These books present magic as both good and evil, which is not true, but in fact a clever deception," he wrote. "The curses and spells used in the books are actual curses and spells; which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text."

In the email, Reehil reportedly said that he consulted several exorcists in the U.S. and Rome who recommended removing the books

I expect this to be one more thread in which christians will not participate because it is such an excellent example of the absurdity of christianity.

This is even more ignorant than banning Tom Sawyer and huckleberry Finn...

Yes they have out of date expressions however that is for the teacher to explain...

Private, Catholic elementary school.

They can decide what to carry in their library and what not.

Doesn't stop any parent from buying those books for their kids.

So, what's your problem?

We should note that "one school administrator in Tennessee" is not the same as "many Christians in America."

Millions of American Christians love the Harry Potter series. Don't confuse the exception with the rule.

No one is saying they don't have a right to do it. They are saying it is DUMB to do it. I take it you support book banning?

I don't think many people are disputing that a private school can curate its library. The problem is that the school administrator is being ridiculous, by claiming that "the curses and spells used in the books are actual curses and spells; which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text." (Yes, that's an actual quote.)

Plus, censorship in school libraries is never a good look, even if it is 100% legal.

A private, Catholic elementary school chose not to carry certain books.

A far cry from book banning.

This has nothing to do with "many christians in america" or "the concept of free speech". This is about a decision by one private school pastor.

btw, I am not a christian and I read all of the books to my sons when they were young...and I've seen all the movies and all the spin off movies.

You know what I think is more weird than this issue? Your obsession with christians and their beliefs.

Frankly, I don't care what his/her reason is. If the parents thought he/she was being ridiculous, they wouldn't sign up their kids and pay on top of that. (grin)

Censorship in school libraries is always going on. It's "excused" with: "We don't carry that book."

There are banning that book series from even being at the school.

The "Harry Potter" series has been banned from a Catholic school in Tennessee because the fictional magic used "actual curses and spells," according to a pastor who described the beloved books as "a possible threat" to their beliefs.

'''Harry Potter''' books banned from Catholic school because reading spells '''risk conjuring evil spirits''' | Fox News

So do you support banning books now?

Already posted the link where it is actually banned meaning a child cannot bring the book into school.

So you approve of the guy banning the books because they can conjure demons and devils, but you actually ask why people are concerned about this? Seriously?

You talk about **** that doesn't concern you personally all the time. Hypocrite, heal thyself.

You still have that comprehension problem, I see.

This is what I said...

1. This has nothing to do with "many christians".

2. This has nothing to do with "the concept of free speech".

3. This is about the decision of one private school pastor.

4. I'm not a christian.

5. I read all the books.

6. I've seen all the movies.

7. The OP is obsessed with christians.

Nothing in your comment is in my post.

Too bad ... I'm sure the kid will survive that and continue reading the books at home.

Silly statement ... sort of like "if you're not with me, you're against me".

If a school wants to ban books, it's their right. Good grief, man; get over it.

You aren't denouncing it so you are supporting it.

Just because they have the right to doesn't mean it can't be criticized. Funny you criticize everything else that doesn't personally concern you.

I bet you even believe it can conjure spells just by reading the book. :lamo

The best part of all this is every kid in that school is going to get the whole series and read it.

The best way to get a kid to read a book is to tell them not to.

I wonder if one of the "exorcists" was the guy who claimed he had to suck demons out young boys dicks???

If Hitler wants to ban books it's his right, get over it.

Nip, nip,nip it in the bud!!! (Barney fief)...

Exactly, these children are going to grow up believing these fairytales, and one day like so many others kill in the name of the bull**** they were fed as children...

Getting a bit low in your fake defense, eh?!? Comparing the school's ban on a certain book to Hitler's book ban ...
