Probably not a good way to protest

Well that was not very wise... but somehow he will end up a champion of the cause (don't ask me how.)

I doubt it, sounds more like a person with serious mental health problems. There is no case where doing such a thing in a bathroom stall makes any sense to a sane person.

Thank you.
Sociology Professor. Surprise me.
Now not only is his arm damaged, but according to the article, he is also facing several charges for bring a gun on campus and actually firing it.
I guess he sure showed Trump this time!

Are these Trump haters completely loosing their minds?
It was silly and amusing when they all gathered on the street at night and screamed their heads off, but now they are using guns on themselves?
Is there even one Democrat that thinks this behavior is a bit off-plumb?

This will count as a "school shooting".

So we take one idiot and extraploate him to represent all protestors? Now that's some idiocy right there!

OK, How about you count how many "sane" Democrat voters gathered on the streets and screamed at the sky on the anniversary of Trump getting elected.
Please do not say THAT is acceptable behavior form sane and rational people.
I will have to disagree.

Probably not, but we've seen other people immolate themselves and go on hunger strikes as a form of protest. Although I'll say this, I despise President Trump and everything he stands for and represents and he sure as hell is not worth my arm.

(thumbs up)

not only what you said, but he will be gone on two to six years anyway.

PLUS....I have yet to have a sitting President affect my daily life.

That's a dumb question. Is there a pattern of Democrats allegedly shooting themselves in bathrooms to protest? If not, then I'd say that roughly ALL (minus 1, allegedly) Democrats don't find that strategy to be a wise one.

And I'm not sure why you'd find protests "silly and amusing." Protests have a long history in this country and elsewhere, often playing a big part in changing that history.

So you are just fine with this kind of behavior.
That was my point.
Not one of you think it was nuts to do that.
All are perfectly good with it.

To clarify your inaccurate conclusion.

I do not find PROTESTS silly and amusing. You said that, not me.
I SAID...I find shooting yourself...AS A FORM OF PROTEST....is a stupid move.
Especially when the person they are protecting will be gone out of that office in two to six years anyway.

Sometimes I find to need to explain things to some in simple terms.
You get it now?

What I said was based on the evidence, roughly 100% (minus 1) of Democrats or leftists and/or liberals aren't "just fine" with shooting oneself in the arm in a bathroom because NO ONE ELSE HAS DONE THAT.

In the very next post, I said, "sounds more like a person with serious mental health problems. There is no case where doing such a thing in a bathroom stall makes any sense to a sane person."

You have to work very hard to misrepresent my points like you did.

Actually you did say it, quoting you, "It was silly and amusing when they all gathered on the street at night and screamed their heads off, but now they are using guns on themselves?"

What you found "silly and amusing" was a street protest of some kind, not the shooting. It's a weird thing to lie about, especially in a short thread where your posts are easy to find...

Roll your eyes all you want.

I will ALWAYS say gathering in the street at night and howling in at the sky is damned stupid and makes those doing it for political purposes pretty damned stupid too.

If you feel this is an effective tactic to affect political change, then join them.

Public self-mutilation or suicide in protest of a government is not a new thing. Doesn't matter if the government is temporary or not. I'd have to hear the guy's message before I know what it's all about, and of course the article would rather belittle the gunshot wound than figure out why the guy was so serious about it.

As usual, the media loves making fun of activism. Part of the degenerate political times we live in.

I don't want to hear one damned thing from someone so politically distraught they take a gun to themselves.
They can keep their insanity to themselves.

Speak for yourself.

And obviously their protest is working if you're talking about them.

Their protest IS NOT working.
I am talking about them because of their INSANITY at shooting themselves over some political cause.
Their INSANITY is the focus of the conversation. NOT what they were protesting or their cause.

I rolled my eyes because it was one of the dumber lies I'd seen in a long time. You flat denied saying something that you clearly and obviously said - made a point of clarifying, then just made up a whopper contradicted by words you couldn't edit away. It was a literal WTFF moment!

As to its effectiveness, history doesn't agree with you.

Then why did you make a point to lie about saying it the FIRST time? Just trying out gaslighting for fun?

As to its effectiveness, history doesn't agree with you.

Evidently you do not read very accurate history books.
Howling at the sky has never accomplished anything but increased throat lozenge sales.

Wrap up warm for next years gathering.

I don't think they're insane, and that they might have a real political message. Whether or not the message is high quality or pertinent, I don't know because it wasn't included in the writing.

Just because you think something is a certain way, doesn't mean you get to frame the conversation for everybody.

Here's a classic image of self-immolation in the Vietnam era:

Right, because protests aren't at all a common part of political change in America. Like that Boston Tea party, protests for the right of women to vote, prohibition, civil rights, the Vietnam war, Tea party gatherings, none of them did anything!

Thanks for the history lesson!
