So someone stole a Horizon Air turboprop tonight at SeaTac. Our pilot keeps giving us little pieces of information as she learns more. For security, Seatac airport had to be shut down. Apparently, it was an airport employee that stole the plane. An F-15 tried to chase it down before the stolen plane crashed in Puget Sound. The hijacker was the only casualty as far as we know right now. So now we're sitting on the runway waiting for a gate to clear. This is the second traveling misadventure I've been associated with in a month. Last month they had to evacuate my hotel at 2 in the morning for a carbon monoxide leak. You just can't make this stuff up!

Same just landed there. My earlier flight today also got canceled after a 20 minute hailstorm bookended by aggressive sunlight damaged the plane. And when I thought it couldn’t get weirder, here I am.

No confirmation of death yet. He could still be alive, possibly.

I'm on Alaska inbound from San Antonio. Where did you come in from tonight? FYI - I can see out our window that planes have started taking off again - hopefully we'll be moving soon!

Makes sense - we're getting information in dribs and drabs from our pilot and from Twitter.

Oh, who HASN’T done that

St. Louis. Also on Alaska.

Oh, well. At least we have a good frequent flyer program :) I won't have a long trip when we finally do disembark. I have my car parked at an airport lot and only about a 30 minute drive home afterwards. You?

About the same. As long as it’s not something crazy like keeping us over night I don’t really mind. Will be a fun story.

I rode back on the airport shuttle bus with one of your fellow passengers, inbound from St. Louis. Like you, we ended up being stuck on the tarmac after landing for an hour and a half. As I was headed up the jetway, one of the flight attendants told me we were almost diverted to PDX.

It's sad that this suicidal person pushed so much he succeeded. He did go out of his way NOT to injure anybody else, although he did cost the airline a lot of money. On the other hand, he also pointed out a huge hole in security that terrorist could have exploited... and I am sure that will be examined, and the hole closed.

What a coincidence that two DP members posted from the same airport while stuck there during an incident worthy of international attention!

All the better that the two of you maintained your cool ... and made it to your final destinations safely. Cheers!

As for the young man who stole the plane and committed suicide, my condolences to all who loved him.

I don't do well stuck in a small space and therefore don't like to fly, though not afraid of flying itself. So the moment on the plane I want it to get going. After about 2 hours the sense of "I got to get out of here" starts to grow. When there is seat selection possible, I 1.) pick a window seat that 2.) is closest to the front.

Being stuck on the runaway, taking off or after landing waiting to get to the terminal gets to me quickly. However, I never try to cut my way in line to get off plus it seems absurd for everyone to stand at the same time when no one in the back is going anywhere for a while.

Yes, that was a pretty unique experience. The airport on lockdown, looking out my passenger window and seeing the runways turned into airplane parking lots. Fidgety people standing up and walking around on the plane and being told to sit. Not the best way to spend a Friday night!

You live on the edge without trying! I got CyberLove for you Lurch .... and ample confidence your Inner Light shines Bright (as in many more years of quality living).

Neither carbon monoxide in a motel nor a young confused airport tech run amok has stopped your life mission! Nah, the force and stories of lurchadams continue to manifest. I liked you right off the rip back in our early DP days. Since then the contents of your posts have continued to make my Fandom for you grow! If you quit DP ... or banishment ever occurs, count on me to follow you to the next forum. Many Grins!
