Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Kylie Jenner is worth $900m (£680m) at just 20 years of age, says Forbes. The business magazine said the social media star is on track to become "the youngest-ever self-made billionaire".
The fashion guru, the youngest of the Kardashian clan, starting selling her own cosmetics three years ago.

My overall disgust for all things Kardashian/Jenner should be no secret to anyone here.

Check off another thing that just galls my stones, calling anything Kylie does "self made".

What an absolute, outright in-your-face insult to anyone in the "real world" who is actually self-made.

Would you agree?
Do you consider Kylie's business success to be "self-made"?

She used her name. She was industrious. She was smart. Yes, she earned it.

I'd say she is yes. She very well could have sat on her ass this whole time. She obviously hasn't.

You don't think she's had extreme advantages that have catapulted her success to heights that other "regular folks" just don't have?

Would you also consider Ivanka Trump's success in life to be "self-made"?

So what if she did have advantages other others don't? She made the choice to get up off her ass and do something. She could have sat on her ass and not make the money that she has made and instead kept at the level that she was at before her name became something.

Yes.

To be fair, if she had sat on her ass she would still be worth a couple of hundred million. People can and do get rich from doing absolutely nothing, especially if you are related to rich, famous people.

Yeah sure, she'd still have a couple million. But she has far more than that now, thanks to her not sitting on her butt.

Yes.

We obviously have highly different definitions of what "self-made" means.

I'd bet my house that had Kylie been born Suzy McGinnis, to a family in Kansas that made a modest middle-class income through working for the UPS and Walmart, that Suzy would not be worth almost a billion dollars today thanks to a cosmetic line.

Nobody is questioning her work ethic, her determination, or her intelligence.
Nobody is questioning her actual business model or her success.

The ONLY question in this thread is the use of the term "self-made".

Kardashian-Jenners explains so much of what happened to America, and it also tells us where we are headed. Buckle up all you sad sacks who are under 40. Life is gonna suck for you all.

She is not self made.

\ thread.

Doesn't make her self made, that makes her successful.

Big difference.

Yes, we apparently do. For me anyone that is self made is someone who doesn't sit on their butts all day and because of that makes more money than they had starting out.

I used skills learned from old time craftsmen and tradesmen and turned around started a small business off of the knowledge I have gained from them.

If you really want to pick nits...………..nobody is truly self made when it comes right down to it.

We copy, mimic, and reference as we grow.

Wow. You really don't understand do you?

No, I understand just fine. People don't want to admit that she's self made because she started out rich because of her family name. It would ruin the belief that the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor. Reality however shows that who is rich and who isn't fluctuates. And that is due to actions that each individual makes.
