A prison-bound New Jersey priest contests he only uploaded child pornography to his computer to get back at God, who’d been making him lose at poker.

Father Kevin Gugliotta will serve 11½ to 23½ months in prison and must register as a sex offender, according to reports.

The priest, who previously worked in the Archdiocese of Newark, was busted last year when police found child porn on his computer at his Gouldsboro, Pa., apartment last year.

Investigators found the 55-year-old priest uploaded the illegal material several times between July 9 and Aug. 29, 2016, the Pocono Record reports.

I mean, if God loved him, he should have known this would have happened and made him win at poker. Obviously, God is the one who belongs in prison over this.
 
That'd almost be badass if it wasn't child pornography. The sheer balls it takes for a priest to send God a "**** you" like that is quite substantial.

Or he's making up an excuse, and he's just another corrupt Catholic priest that likes sticking his willie where it clearly doesn't belong. I'm betting on the second one.

Right? I mean, he knew the outcome and he did it anyway. He enabled this, allowed it to happen. A more clear case of Divine Entrapment there is not.

Usually, when I have a losing streak, I unleash a stream of epithets involving various religious icons.
It never occurred to me that downloading childporn was more effective than saying "G-dammit to G-dam hell!!"
The things one can learn at a seminary are truly amazing.

Those priests almost never get put away. They just get shuttled to a different church where people don't know what they've done.

True enough.....and the Catholic church receives yet another blackeye.
I'm not certain what the church is thinking when it makes these sorts of decisions.

It's thinking it can get away with it, and that they can't get away with losing priests left and right. It's either protect the pedophiles or let priests get married, and only one of those things is explicitly forbidden in canon law.

Either way, they've got the eyes to take a black one here or there. Catholicism is going to be just fine.
 
Most surprising thing in that story is that the church actually stripped the guy of his priesthood. Normally with guys like this they move them to Rome and give them a job there where they can't be tried for their horrible offenses. Though it does mention that they haven't considered whether they'll reinstate him once he's out.

As he was arrested and caught by the police, I doubt the RC has the ability to transfer him. I expect most cases of abuse are not reported to the police, allowing the priest to be transferred before the police get involved

I think this was probably said in jest but that's about as reasonable as some other explanations I've read here...people don't believe in God, yet they want to blame Him for everything that happens...

I wonder if this priest's actions actually ended his losing streak.
Could set a bad precedent.
