Was Alvin York undoubtably the most honorable U.S. soldier in history?

Funny thing, with your stance on things, is that those in this thread like Audey Murphy & Alvin York who almost
every poster has acclaimed, if they had been born during the civil war era, you would be bashing
them too for fighting to 'retain slavery' after all York & Forrest were both Tennesseans & Murphy I believe was Texan.

I don't begrudge to rank and file soldier. Many of them fought more for a form of liberty they believed they were losing. Many simply fought in defense of their state or of the Confederate states.

Forrest et al were something else.

He and the revisionist Southern folks that followed have a special place in hell.

It should be noted that Forrest, like Murphy & York enlisted as a private. (A rank and file soldier as you state) But he did so as a Confederate,
that's your beef!
