Back in the old days men got drafted --- what were your options then?

I am a centrist to correct you. I admire GW Bush for serving our nation as a fighter pilot. Cheney got legal deferements. And your other list has to be explained.

I do not worship men. I admire our good president Donald Trump.

Keep in mind there were the Obama youth league who honored him in school singing his praises at the direction of teachers. We do not find that is happening for Trump.

Trumpsters always firmly believe that they are far more mainstream than they are. Trump and right wing media has dog whistled to this notion for decades. From Nixons “silent majority”. to this very day. Its a big part of the confirmation bias that is designed in to most conservative political marketing.

I never heard of an Obama youth league singing songs at their teachers.

No, you wont find that with Trump. Angry selfish, resentful, self possessed and openly racist aging baby boomers aren’t too popular with that demographic.

But their grandparents will pay money and stand in line to go to a Trump rally and do it.

George W Bush did avoid serious military service. The Reserves was one of the more common dodges that rich kids (and their parents) used to avoid being sent to Vietnam.

That was the route George W Bush took. His unit was famous as being a haven for rich kids avoiding the war. The bar in Pensacola that he hung out in has a barstool designated in his name. They showed it to me year ago (before Bush was even Governor of Texas).

Trump has bragged about his many deferments. He did not serve in any way. And never reported for an Army physical. Trumps father arranged the letter. He thought military service was for the “little people”. Trumps didnt do that sort of thing.

His father Froedrich, thought the same way. He immigrated to the US to avoid serving in the Kaisers army. In the early 1900s, when Froederich tried to go back, he was denied specifically because of that.

I myself had that exam and that day I could not see much at all. I wanted the draft doctor to forgive me from the draft. The man did not forgive me at all. I had particles of cast iron in my eyes that were painful. I believed this would forgive me from the draft. The doctor looked at my eyes and said you will be drafted.

Marching in hill country was required of all draftees. And those not able to march ended up being removed by the Army once they got drafted.

Options to not be drafted were stated in the law.

2. Being in college and obtaining written permits.
3. A serious illness. The deaf and blind never got drafted. A heart problem would keep you from serving.

Uh . . . . nonsense. At the height of the draft, the medical examination was nothing but a vital signs mill, and the doctors never even had time to perform bone X-rays. If you presented them with a "legitimate" doctor's diagnosis, and "your own" X-ray, they waved you through. There were plenty of other recruits to process.

Commander in Chief Bone Spurs was only one among hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of such draft dodgers nation wide. Most educated people with financial means knew that the pretexts for the war was a farce, it was not in defense of this country, and there were plenty of poorer, less educated cannon fodder to fill the Selective Service quotas - especially among minorities.

You are not dodging the draft by having such foot ailments. Johnson led this country astray by invading Vietnam and not finishing off the job.

It starts at the beginning where I explained the system. And that the Feds hired doctors that performed the examinations for the Feds.

Anyway since Democrats accepted the draft dodging Bill Clinton, only hypocrites make Trumps lack of military service an issue.

I see no official records that Trump had any deferment. But this does not mean I am saying he never did. I do not care about that anyway. Bush 43 served our nation as an Air Force pilot. It was Bill Clinton that fled to England after he promised to serve thus evading the draft. Democrats applauded him over that.

Bill Clinton on the other hand simply fled to England after promising an Officer he would serve his time as an Officer in the Army.

BS, he used his position, or should we say Daddies Position, to jump in line to get into the TANG,. As for his hours, he dissapeared after one year and was eventually given a discharge. His service was a joke.

Agree, Clinton should have fought it here in the US.

I studied the entire service record of G.W. Bush and he put in more hrs than required. As to jumping the line, even if this happened, how does that negate his flying service?
In the USA Clinton operated as if he would be in the Army but fled to England.

Would you want Bush to also fight his service?

You have to be in good physical shape to be a soldier, especially in the infantry. There are a ton of exemptions:

Medical Standards for the Military

It's not just the gear, it is the physicality of it on your back when you are trying to move without breaking an ankle. BTW, the boots had a metal insert to protect the bottom of the foot, but nothing to prevent an ankle sprain.

No one is willing to give Trump the benefit of the doubt. BTW, where was Joe Biden? Joe Biden was riding student deferments during the Vietnam War. That makes him a hero of the left, I guess.

First off, Vietnam was invaded by Eisenhower - not Johnson.

If Commander in Chief Bone Spurs has them, he shows no sign of it now. There'd be medical records, including X-rays, especially if it was corrected. Ask the man you idolize - the one who "performs his office magnificently" (eye roll) - to produce documentation. Absent that, get used to him being crowned CiC Bone Spurs. Until we see that, stop wasting your own time carrying water for this slug.
