The Trump administration has discussed whether to conduct the first U.S. nuclear test explosion since 1992 in a move that would have far-reaching consequences for relations with other nuclear powers and reverse a decades-long moratorium on such actions, said a senior administration official and two former officials familiar with the deliberations.

The matter came up at a meeting of senior officials representing the top national security agencies May 15, following accusations from administration officials that Russia and China are conducting low-yield nuclear tests — an assertion that has not been substantiated by publicly available evidence and that both countries have denied.

In the development of the latest generation of nuclear weapons, such tests may be inevitable. But besides violating existing treaties, it would have a destabilizing effect on nuclear-armed countries like N Korea, India, Pakistan & potentially even Iran.

And we all know the last thing the stable genius would do is anything to destabilize relationships that affect the entire world considering his great and unmatched wisdom.

And when is discussing something a problem? I would want my government to discuss such things, that is their job after all.

This frigging insanity has really gone over the top now. Now people are having fits because something is discussed. And even apply some logic and reasoning to the reporting. The article did not even say that Trump suggested it, or that he approved or disapproved of it. It may well have been some other member that brought it up and then others then gave their input as the President just sat back and watched and said nothing.

And in reading closer, it does not even say that the President was at this meeting at all!

This is the very thing we pay our government to do, discuss such things, even make plans in the event that something like the Russians decide to make public that they are now openly testing. At least this way our officials could say they had previously discussed it, and have possible responses ready.

And if people are really concerned, where has their effort been in getting the US to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty? After all, we have only had that treaty sitting around since 1996, and have yet to ratify the thing. 24 years, and still nothing.

Interestingly enough, one of the promises of the last President was to get that ratified. However, he never even sent it to the Senate to be ratified, and apparently did nothing during his entire 8 years to try and get it ratified.

I want to see a show of hands of people that think this is such a huge deal, but also have been trying to do what they can to get the CNTB treaty ratified, or been talking about it at all. Because those that did not are only once again screaming at the sky, about something they probably did not give a damn about before last week.

There are no ratified treaties against the U.S. conducting underground nuclear tests.

Why is it always the United States that has to be the one that "stabilizes" the world? If Russia, China and Iran want to set the good example of not conducting anymore nuclear testing, let them do it.
